We are seeking to appoint a Teacher of Science, Second in Department, to support and work closely with the Head of Science. The successful candidate will be inspiring and ambitious and will be able to effectively teach all three disciplines up to KS4. We are looking for applications from candidates who can motivate our learners to achieve their best, can instil a “Growth Mindset” in all, and nurture students to see challenges as opportunities to flourish. The school is oversubscribed, has achieved significantly above average Progress 8 scores over the past three years and holds an Ofsted rating of good.
BBG Academy is part of The Rodillian Multi Academy Trust, which also includes The Featherstone Academy, Brayton Academy, Southway and the founding school, Rodillian Academy. BBG Academy has recently completed an extensive building project to add 12 new fully equipped classrooms, a dining room extension and brand-new changing facilities to the current building.
The Rodillian Multi Academy Trust has a reputation for high expectations for all, a pioneering curriculum and excellent staff/student relationships. In return, the successful candidate will enjoy access to high quality CPD at all levels and the chance to work in an organisation that does things differently. Our academies are a place where staff can develop their skills, find their own style and methods of teaching, learn and grow alongside their students, and feel that they are making a real difference to the lives of those they teach. The Trust is committed to providing private school opportunities in a modern comprehensive environment. We believe that traditional values of discipline and respect are sacrosanct. We do not tolerate bullying, defiance or rudeness and this has made for harmonious and safe learning environments for our young people, and a supportive environment for staff.
This is a real opportunity for you to make your mark, and as a growing Multi-Academy Trust with an excellent reputation, there are always opportunities for career development and further career progression for ambitious and committed colleagues.
Prospective candidates are welcome to contact Karen Marshall, PA to the Principal at: karen.marshall@bbgacademy.com to arrange a discussion about this opportunity.
The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Any successful applicants will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure check by the Disclosure and Barring Service.

About BBG Academy
BBG Academy is an inclusive 11-16 school in the heart of Birkenshaw. As part of the Rodillian Multi Academy Trust, we hold the highest standards for behaviour and discipline; for aspirations within and beyond the classroom; for support within and around the school.
BBG Academy regularly appears in the top 20% of schools nationally, and within the top three schools in Kirklees based on both progress and attainment.
Ofsted’s 2021 inspection saw BBG Academy rated 'Good' in all areas - a fantastic achievement for all involved with the BBG community. The report indicates that “Staff and pupils are proud to be part of the school. One pupil described the school as a big family."
We believe that every single child can achieve their personal best with resilience and grit - and this tenet is at the heart of everything we do. From Year 7, our students are taught to be resilient in a dynamic, innovative curriculum that responds to educational research and the needs of our pupils.
Students have opportunities to learn how to be resilient in the face of difficulties and failure - in chess, British Sign Language, and in debate (amongst other things) at school - and in physical pursuits and independence found at our Resilience Camps. We teach them that with determination, improvement is not only likely - it is inevitable.
We are rightly proud of our students and their achievements - but it is our colleagues and the support from the wider Rodillian Multi Academy Trust that makes us truly unique.
We ensure that our colleagues have the opportunity to teach without disruption, to continue their own professional development in a bespoke programme, and to ensure they have every tool they need to be successful in their career.
In short, BBG Academy is an amazing place to learn, to teach and to thrive.
Interim Head of School
