Teacher of Science (Second in Department)
February 2021
Dear Candidate
Thank you for your interest in joining our Science team at The Island Free School.
The Island Free School is a highly successful and popular secondary school based in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight. Our school is highly academic and all pupils follow the English Baccalaureate, with GCSE programmes of study in all subject areas. The school, which was created by parents and teachers, opened to year 7 pupils in 2014 and we are now at capacity. Our model has proved very popular with Island families and we are heavily oversubscribed in all year groups.
Central to the success of the school is our highly effective team of teachers and support staff all of whom share a passion for creating an extraordinary school for Island families. We have been rated Good with Outstanding personal development, behaviour and welfare by Ofsted in our first inspection in June 2017 and we encourage you to read our Ofsted report prior to applying for this role.
We received our first set of GCSE results in August 2019 and we were delighted with the achievements of our pupils. Our challenge going forward will now be to build upon this success for future cohorts on our Island.
We seek to appoint enthusiastic Teacher of Science to join our established team as a second in department. This role would suit candidates with previous leadership experience or those looking for their first leadership responsibility. This role has flexible scope for development and either of the following would be an advantage though not essential:
- the ability to line manage Computer Science in the school
- the ability to teach Mathematics
In joining our team can also expect a balanced timetable, high quality professional development, the potential for career advancement and the opportunity to enjoy coming to work each day.
To apply please use the online form – we look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your interest in our school.
Kind regards,
Mr S J Boyd
