Job overview

Teacher of Science.

Tes is currently supporting a friendly and supportive secondary academy, based in Southampton, Hampshire. The school is looking to add a Teacher of Science to its progressive and supportive Science Department ideally starting in November 2020.

The role will include teaching and coordinating the delivery of Science at KS3 and GCSE across year groups 7 to 11. You will support the Head of Science to enhance provision and will get the chance to get involved with exciting project work throughout the year. Project work will include revising schemes of work and ensuring the curriculum is engaging to all learners alongside projects that support student attainment, well-being and engagement within the wider school. You’ll also lead by example, supporting learners to achieve to the best of their ability and you’ll enjoy that great feeling when your learners achieve grades beyond their dreams.

“As a small school we are fortunate to be able to really get to know each and every student. Staff who work here see this a real benefit and you will join a school where tailored CPD and effective communication is firmly embedded. Over the last 3 years we have made great strides in school improvement and in February 2018 we were judged to be a ‘good’ school in all areas.

We are seeking to appoint a committed, driven and inspiring Science teacher to join our Science faculty on a full time, maternity cover basis. We would ideally love someone to join us who has a Physics specialism but we are open and welcome applications from all subject specialisms. There is potential for this role to turn permanent due to expected increases in student numbers. The Science department is very well resourced and staffed so you will be coming into a welcoming, stable environment. You will join a school where all colleagues play their part and contribute to whole school improvement through our distributed leadership model. If you embody these values and have high expectations, you will be very successful working with us.

Our students will make you feel proud to be a teaching professional and it is our duty to help enable them to make rapid and sustained progress so they achieve what they are capable of.

We want our Academy to lead the way in teaching excellence and for all our staff and students to develop their maximum potential. Get on board and make a real difference to our children and to your career!”

The school is offering:

• A super supportive and highly visible SLT team and Headteacher;

• on-going CPD with programmes of study such as NPQML and MA in Educational Leadership

• progression support throughout the school and wider group

• support package for NQT’s/RQT’s including CPD and NQT mentorship;

• the chance to take on further responsibility such as TLR or Leadership roles in the future.

The school expects:

• a relevant Science Degree or a related subject

• experience of delivering Science up to GCSE pushing and engaging learners to progress within the subject
