Job overview
Beaumont school is offering an excellent opportunity to join a high-achieving department within an outstanding school (Ofsted, 2014). We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and skilled science teacher with any specialism, who is able to teach all ages and abilities, 11-18, including A level. The Science department is the largest in the school and benefits from experienced and newer members of staff. Science is well resourced and supported by four excellent technicians. The department has a high profile within the school and achieves outstanding results. Large numbers of students choose to study science at A level and at university and we offer a full enrichment programme such as the Physics Olympiad, Cambridge Chemistry Challenge, Young Engineers and much more. This is an exciting time for the department as funding has been secured for redevelopment in 2018.
We are an oversubscribed, mixed comprehensive school, placed in the top 4% of maintained schools in the country, with 1200 students, including over 300 in the Sixth Form, many of whom study Science at A level. In 2015, the school was the most popular secondary school in St Albans and received a certificate of excellence from the Schools guide UK. Ofsted (2014) found the school to be outstanding in all areas. The school has an excellent reputation for Teaching and Learning, with many opportunities for professional development. Beaumont students are well behaved and are nurtured through a strong pastoral and house system.
Prospective candidates are welcome to tour the school prior to application.

About Beaumont School
Beaumont is an oversubscribed, mixed comprehensive school, with Academy status, of over 1500 students, including a sixth form of 486. It enjoys an excellent reputation and achieves the very highest levels of academic success across a broad and balanced curriculum, supported by excellent pastoral care. In 2014, Ofsted found Beaumont to be an outstanding school in all categories. The school receives strong support from parents and our local community and its staff are dedicated to ensuring that students reach their full potential and to creating a vibrant and inspirational environment for learning.
We are so proud of our students who undertook public exams in 2023 and the wonderful results they achieved. They have demonstrated great resilience to achieve outstanding grades at both A Level and GCSE, in spite of all the challenges of going through secondary education during a pandemic.
At KS4 there were hugely impressive results across the board, from the number of top grades achieved to the highest percentage of students gaining grade 4 or above in both English and Maths in the school’s history (92%). 42% of the results were at grades 9 - 7 and we achieved a Progress 8 score of 0.7.
Beaumont’s Sixth Form students did themselves proud yet again in 2023, reaping the fruits of all their hard work to gain outstanding results, including 76 A* grades at ‘A’ Level. At KS5, the A Level APS per entry was 39.8, meaning the average grade awarded was a B. Many have won places on some of the most competitive university courses in the land, including several who are heading to Oxbridge.
All post holders are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
