For September 2019, we are seeking to appoint an outstanding teacher of Science to join our high performing department at Avanti Secondary School. The position will be suitable for both a newly qualified and a more experienced teacher.

Avanti Secondary School is one of the top performing schools in the country based on GCSE outcomes. In 2016/17 we were in the top 3% of schools for progress in Science (top 1% for disadvantages students). In 2017/18 we improved our Progress 8 score and are looking for the applicant to contribute to the further success of our department. Science is a mathematically demanding subject, and you would be working with a school that performed in the top 10 from 6323 schools nationally for progress in Maths GCSE.

In 2017/18, our results were between 40 and 50% 9 – 7 in all three Sciences as well as Maths at GCSE.  We look to recruit a teacher that can continue to maintain these high standards by reinforcing our expectations to achieve academic excellence.

The successful applicant will be able to deliver all three Sciences up to KS4. It would also be desirable if the applicant would be willing to assisting the Head of Faculty in running residential trips such as our planned excursion to see the Northern Lights in 2020.

Avanti House is a secondary school 11-19 school that opened in 2012. Currently there are 945 students with a Sixth Form of Year 12 & 13. The school will eventually have a pupil number of approximately 1200 and is already over- subscribed in applications for the year 7 intake in 2019. Avanti schools are Hindu-designated faith schools. However, all staff members at Avanti House School will not be required to present themselves from any specific faith background and there will be no preference given in this regard. This is an exciting time to join the school as it continues its journey to outstanding.

We are looking for an innovative and strategic thinker with vision and ideas lead by example and act as a strong role model to students. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and energetic team who strive to ensure that all students enjoy learning and surpass expectations.

About Avanti House Secondary School

Avanti House is a very happy school where the behaviour and attitudes to learning, by all students are exceptional. Students have an established and meaningful ‘voice’ through the prefect system and school council. It is through working in close partnership with parents and students that the school has grown exponentially since its opening.

When Ofsted inspectors visited the school in July 2014, they reported:

“The behaviour of pupils is outstanding. They are, without exception, respectful and polite. New pupils are immediately included, and those with additional needs or who experience difficulty settling in are sensitively inducted until they feel safe.”

At Avanti House Secondary School we deliver a rounded education to nurture confident and creative young people who will thrive in adult life. We put an equal emphasis on the highest academic achievement alongside the development of character and spiritual insight.

We offer students a diverse range of opportunities both in and out of the classroom. For example, we offer the Duke of Edinburgh Award and various trips including residential visits to Barcelona, Isle of Wight, Wales, Belgium, Rome and France.

Avanti House Secondary School is part of the growing family of Avanti schools. Avanti schools are Hindu-designated faith schools. However, staff and students at Avanti House Schools do not originate from any specific faith background; applications are welcome from practitioners of any faith and from those of none. They will, however, be expected to be in full sympathy with the unique ethos and vision of the School.
