Job overview

Rawlins – inspiring learning for life

Rawlins is a good school with an outstanding sixth form

We need a science teacher to inspire our wonderful students

August 2018

Salary: 9 point range from £22,917 to £38,633 (TLR may be available)

Rawlins boasts a very strong science team with outstanding A-level and GCSE triple science results.

We are seeking an innovative and enthusiastic science teacher of any discipline to join our flourishing academy. Our ideal candidate will have a love for science and a passion to teaching so that our students thrive. We have an excellent support package for NQTs, who are encouraged to apply, and we also welcome part-time applicants.

The science department is a large, vibrant team, with a mix of experienced and new teachers. We are fortunate to be supported by five technicians and two dedicated learning support assistants. Staff are encouraged to take a full role within the team, contributing ideas to discussion in order to ensure the department continually improves; we value our staff voice.

We are an oversubscribed school with 1530 students on roll, including 320 in post 16 and 38 students in our Skills for Learning unit which provides students with moderate learning difficulties a special school experience within a mainstream environment.  We are also working with the Local Authority to set up a dedicated unit for students with high functioning ASD. We pride ourselves on being a beacon of inclusion. We aim to give our students the best experience of school life, allowing our students to find their talents and their passions through a broad and balanced curriculum but we can’t do this without dedicated, energetic and passionate teachers who put the students at the heart of everything they do.

Closing date: Wednesday 18 April at 12 noon

Interviews will be held on Wednesday 25 April.

Our motto here at Rawlins is “Inspiring learning for life”. We don’t just want our students to pass exams, we want them to be curious about learning, to relish a challenge and to have the confidence and resilience to overcome any obstacles in their way. Our core purpose is summed up in “The Rawlins Way”:

  • We respect and care for each other
  • We work hard to learn and to achieve
  • We face challenges positively together

With its 300 year history Rawlins is routed in the small village community of Quorn in which it is located. Close to the university town of Loughborough, it is well served by a good range of facilities, retaining an old world charm. Quorn is surrounded by beautiful countryside in the heart of Charnwood.

Rawlins is a popular and successful 11-19 Academy serving a diverse catchment area. The Loughborough area recently underwent a major educational restructure from 11-14 high schools and 14-19 upper schools to all through schools. Now that this transition is complete and embedded, Rawlins is ready to move to the next stage of development. Our aim is to be a beacon of inclusion and innovation. Currently we are oversubscribed at Key Stage 3, and we also attract a large number of external pupils to our Sixth Form.

We are an inclusive school having an ASD and a Moderate Learning Difficulties specialist unit on site alongside our school’s SEND support base and Success Centre. Pupils who attend these units are an integrated part of our school community and taught within the school by mainstream staff.

Beyond results, we are very proud of the opportunities which all students have across many successful areas including sport, the arts and charity work. We aim to inspire our pupils to find their talents and their passions through a broad and balanced curriculum; to be curious about learning; to relish a challenge and to have both confidence and resilience.
