Job overview

Teacher of Science – one year fixed-term (Maternity Cover)

To start 2nd June or 1st September 2025

Saint Cecilia’s Church of England School is an inclusive, co-educational and community orientated academy, for pupils and students, aged 11-18 years. Specialising in the teaching of Music and Mathematics, Saint Cecilia’s is a well-respected and hugely oversubscribed school. Teaching is exceptional, our curriculum is challenging, standards of behaviour are high and our results are consistently good.

The school’s vision is driven by its Christian mission to ‘Glorify God, through outstanding and enjoyable education’, which is underpinned by John 10:10 “I have come that you may have life, and have it to the full.” Whilst candidates must be in sympathy with the aims of a voluntary-aided Church of England school, a Christian commitment is not essential for this post.

We are looking for an inspirational and effective Teacher of Science, who is keen to join a large, successful and dedicated department. Science is highly valued, with engaging and exciting teaching at Key Stage 3, and approximately 40% of pupils taking Triple Science at GCSE. We have a thriving Sixth Form with a large uptake at Key Stage 5 across five subjects: A Levels Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology and CTEC Applied Science. We welcome applications from experienced Science teachers and Early Career Teachers.

Saint Cecilia’s has a history of academic excellence and pupils and students achieved impressive results at GCSE and A Levels.

At GCSE in 2024:

•       Attainment 8 was 54.67

•       80% of pupils achieved 9-4 grades in both English and Maths

•       68% of pupils achieved 9-5 grades in both English and Maths

At A Level in 2024:

•       24% of grades were A*-A

•       45% of grades were A*-B

•       74% of grades were A*-C

•       Many leavers gain places at prestigious Russell Group universities, including Oxbridge.

Located close to Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Club, Saint Cecilia’s is well connected to central London and the West End by exceptional transport links. The school is within the Inner London Weighting area, which adds a significant increase to salary.

Are you ready to join a team of dedicated teachers, in a “Good” school which aspires to be Great?

Are you ready to contribute towards a Great Curriculum, establish Great Learning and build a culture of Great Professionalism and Great Partnerships, all in a caring, supportive Christian Ethos?

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All posts are subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Please note that we do not accept CVs.

We regret that we are unable to offer skilled worker visa sponsorship to non-UK citizens for this role.

The deadline for applications is Wednesday 26th March 2025 at 9.00 am.

About Saint Cecilia's Church of England School

THE AIMS OF THE SCHOOL
Saint Cecilia’s Church of England School is a co-educational comprehensive school for pupils aged 11–18 years specialising in the teaching of Music and Mathematics.

As a Christian school, we are proud to declare that we exist to ‘Glorify God through outstanding, enjoyable education’.

The school values the uniqueness of each individual as a person made in the image of God, entitled to teaching and learning opportunities which will enable him or her to become a confident, competent, caring and self-reliant person, fully prepared for adult life and the world of work in modern Britain.

In order to fulfil its Mission Statement, the school seeks:

•To develop the whole child.

•To promote the highest standards of academic achievement, motivation and self-discipline in all pupils.

•To ensure high quality teaching and learning in all subjects and at all key stages.

•To encourage each individual child to develop her or his talents to the full.

•To ensure that everyone is treated equally and with respect.

•To develop in pupils an awareness and appreciation of spiritual, moral, social and cultural values and attitudes.

•To help pupils develop creative, lively and critically enquiring minds and the ability to question and discuss rationally.

•To promote an awareness of our place in, dependency on and respect for the world environment.

•To promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

At Saint Cecilia’s we believe that pupils should enjoy and learn from their everyday experiences, both in and out of school, valuing their school days as part of a process of lifelong learning. Fulfilment grows from a sense of personal achievement and pupils are given the opportunity to participate in a wide range of educational and recreational activities, including decision-making. Teaching is organised to enable pupils to work individually as well as in groups, cooperatively and well as competitively. Assessment of pupils’ work accentuates positive achievement as well as provides direction for future improvement.
