Job overview

Teacher of Science 1.0FTE

Due to expansion, we are looking to appoint  either an experienced teacher or an NQT.

Ursuline College is situated in Westgate on Sea, Kent.  We have a fast rail service to London and Ramsgate.  Canterbury is 11 miles away for City life.  We are a caring school where we promote the Serviam Ethos.  We have a chapel on the school grounds which we share with the Ursuline Sisters.  Staff can use the chapel to have time to reflect.  We welcome all faiths and respect each others beliefs.  Mass is held daily at 5.30pm with the Sisters.  Staff are welcome to attend. You do not have to be Catholic to apply for this position.

Ursuline College has an amazing Sports hall with a nearby Astro Turf football pitch on the school grounds.  Staff play football (mostly male staff) indoors in the Sport Hall on Fridays afterschool.  The Sports hall is hired out continuously so a height of activity is produced from this area every day after school.  It is used by Thanet Schools and the local community, the Thanet School Games Officer operates from Ursuline College. We also offer you the opportunity to join our staff choir and take part in school shows, such as the X factor where students and staff take part. This is all voluntary, but lots of fun enjoyed by staff and students.  Teachers organise trips that benefit the students and recently some of our students have just returned from a visit to Cologne in Germany to see the Christmas Markets, Paris and Disney at Easter, the Chocolate Factory and the local Cathedral and nearby sandy beach.  We have an active DofE department and students have completed Bronze and Silver awards.

The 6th form students have their own newly furbished Study Centre in a separate building, with space for studying and using computers for school work and coursework.  All study time is supervised by teaching staff or KS5 Pastoral Officer.

The IT department is situated in St Ursula's building which has two classrooms and an IT office for staff.   The Science department is situated on the top floor of St Ursula's.  There is a technicians room with two full time Science technicians to help you.  Students are encouraged to participate in maintaining the garden and to learn about growing plants and vegetables.  Modern Foreign Languages, Religious Education, English and Design Technology are all located in St Ursula's.  In the main building, we have a team of competent Administrative staff, all working to help the smooth transition in school life.

Viewing is welcomed if possible, to experience the feel of Ursuline College and school life.  If you are interested in applying for this position, please complete the application form from TES and send in as soon as possible.
