We are looking for someone with enthusiasm for innovative teaching with a vision to transform learning.

The Science department is a dedicated and dynamic team, who are committed to achieving the best outcome for our students. The department consists of 8 teaching staff and 3 technicians. We have 8 fully equipped laboratories, with another being opened in September 2020. As a department, we uphold and instil the ethos of the wider Academy and provide a stimulating learning experience for our students through regular practical and investigatory activities. Students are set according to ability from Year 7, this enables teaching staff to tailor the learning to the individual needs of our students. Within the Science department we:

• Aim to make our students aware of the moral, ethical and cultural implications of aspects of Science

• Set high expectations for all learners and staff alike, recognising and celebrating achievements

• Develop the skills of our students to help them become independent, resilient and self-motivated learners

• Give opportunities for our staff to constantly develop their practice

In Years 7-9 students follow the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, this is the framework of our curriculum and encourages students to investigate issues through research, observation and experimentation, working independently and collaboratively. The curriculum offered in Years 7-9 covers all three Science disciplines of Science; Biology, Chemistry and Physics. There are nine topics taught each year which are assessed periodically throughout the year and build the foundations for GCSE study.

In Years 10 and 11 all students follow the AQA Trilogy Combined Science syllabus with the most able studying the three separate Sciences. The AQA Trilogy Combined Sciences covers all three Science disciplines; Biology, Chemistry and Physics. At GCSE we have found that having teachers teach all three disciplines up to GCSE encourages and fosters better relationships with students, promotes consistency, reduces workload and provides staff with the opportunity to improve their subject knowledge across all disciplines. As a department we meet regularly to deliver in-house continuous professional development, plan collaboratively and share all resources.

At Post 16, we currently offer IB Biology and IB Chemistry at both higher and standard level and plan to offer Physics and an Applied Science in the near future.

This is a unique opportunity to be involved in and help shape our Academy, at an exciting stage in its development.  The post reflects the continued expansion of the Academy and offers significant scope for professional and career development as the Academy continues to grow in size.

The successful candidate should be an ambitious colleague who combines excellent organisational skills with the ability to inspire and motivate both staff and students. They should be a hardworking, creative, energetic, and an excellent classroom practitioner.  They will have the capacity to help us establish a vibrant learning environment, and a culture of enthusiasm for learning.  Their professionalism and dedication will enable our students to achieve more than they believe possible.

We offer:

  • An exciting and vibrant place of work
  • Gym Facilities
  • High Quality Continued Professional Development
