In a very short space in time, our students, who are mostly Chinese, have grown accustomed to the holistic style of education which is very different from the traditional offering at local schools. They have shown real enjoyment in the inquiry-based pedagogy being employed. Every student is involved in co-curricular activities in areas of music and performing arts, service, sports or creative endeavours.

Our exceptional staff contribute significantly to the co-curricular programme, pastoral and house systems and demonstrate great commitment to the students in their care. An excellent CPD programme is available at the school that includes professional development workshops on a range of topics.

About the Role

Pupils have two entry points to the Upper Secondary School programme. Students can choose to enter a two-year IGCSE programme in Grade 9 and Grade 10. Alternatively, those who have completed the compulsory Chinese curriculum, and who have good English language proficiency, can enter into a one-year IGCSE programme in Grade 10. Both IGCSE programmes prepare pupils to complete A-level courses or the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBDP) Programme in Grade 11 and Grade 12.

Students undertake the Chinese National Curriculum delivered via modern, international pedagogy with content delivered by Chinese and English-speaking teachers to foster bilingualism in students. The aim is to supplement the national curriculum and to meet the needs of each child by giving a breadth of educational experience and academic depth in all areas of studies from core subjects to co-curricular activities.

Reporting to the head of Music and Expressive Arts, the successful applicant will support secondary drama including IGCSE. A strong curriculum offering is complemented by our extensive house and co-curricular programme, requiring coordination with other staff supporting the music programme. Performing Arts play a major part in school life with an annual school musical, drama competitions through the house system and many performance evenings.

Campus facilities are outstanding and include a black box theatre, several music studios and an auditorium seating 800 people. There are full lighting and sound systems in theatre spaces and a full-sized LCD cinematic screen in the main theatre in addition to green rooms and rehearsal spaces. This is an extremely exciting role for a talented and enthusiastic practitioner. The House system and mixed co-curricular activities (CCA) ensure that children mix across school sections to help foster bilingualism. Our pastoral team promotes PSHE topics delivered through homeroom and tutor groups – these include topics such as anti-bullying and healthy lifestyles.
