Job overview

Welcome to Wodensborough!

Our "inclusive and welcoming" school "is improving across all key areas" and we are now full and over-subscribed at Key Stage 3 for the second consecutive year. Personal development, behaviour and welfare are now "Good" as are Leadership and Management. We are very much on the journey to becoming a "Good" school and we are immensely proud of our achievements to date. We invest in our staff and value their work and their contribution to raising standards. We are proud to serve our local community and we are proud to be part of the Ormiston Academies Trust, a family of schools who are all committed to being the trust that makes the biggest difference. We are now seeking to appoint an individual who shares our passion and commitment to ensuring the very highest standards of provision for all pupils and who can join us on journey to excellence.

We are looking for an exceptional teacher with a passion for working with children and who believes, as we do, that all children can achieve regardless of starting points.

Due to rapidly increasing pupil numbers within the main school; our focused provision (for Autism) and our bespoke Post-16 provision for learners with SEND, we need to expand our team. We are looking for an exceptional teacher with a passion for working with children with SEND. Experience in working with children who have EHCPs and those who require additional support is essential. You will be able to demonstrate your belief that all children can achieve regardless of starting points through a proven track record in improving outcomes for SEND learners. You must hold QTS and be able to offer one or more Core Subject areas in terms of teaching.  In addition, there is opportunity to secure a pastoral leadership position, potentially working as a Deputy Head  within our highly talented pastoral team.

Whatever your specialism, you will be passionate about teaching and committed to securing successful futures for our students!  You will also be part of a wider body of staff who are proud to work at Wodensborough and who share an unwavering commitment to changing lives for young people in our local community.

There is opportunity to further progress your career at WOA and we can offer accredited leadership development programmes (NPQML & NPQSL) for candidates who aspire to be leaders in the future. Whatever your career aspirations are, you will be passionate about teaching; able to inspire others and committed to securing successful futures for our students.

A move to Wodensborough is a move you will not regret. If you believe that children come first and want to feel valued as a professional, please come and see us.

Wodensborough is committed to the safeguarding of children and all staff are expected to ensure that the academy is a safe and secure environment for our students. Candidates will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

We will ensure that people are treated solely on the basis of their abilities and potential, regardless of race, colour, nationality, ethnic origin, religious or political belief or affiliation, trade union membership, age, gender, gender reassignment, marital status, sexual orientation, disability, socio-economic background, or any other inappropriate distinction.

Canvassing any member of staff, or member of the Governing Body, directly or indirectly, is prohibited and will be considered a disqualification

The offer of employment by the selection panel and acceptance by the candidate is binding on both parties; subject to pre-employment clearances.

We look forward to receiving your application.

About Wodensborough Ormiston Academy

Welcome to Wodensborough Ormiston Academy.

We are a truly inclusive school. A family. A caring community, who support and work collaboratively in the best interests of every young person to support them on their learning journey. We are a popular and oversubscribed 11-16 mainstream school with the additional expertise and facilities to include 3 focused SEND provisions for young people on the autistic spectrum, deaf and hearing impaired (ARC and Deaf Academy). Our small and bespoke 6th Form, WOA6, caters for students in Years 12 and 13 who have EHCPs.

Believe, Achieve, Succeed – is more than just a phrase. It is a systematic approach to raising aspirations and standards which is underpinned by our unwavering commitment to improving the life chances of young people in Sandwell.

At WOA, we believe that every child has the potential to achieve and we expect nothing but the best for each and every one of our students. Through our curriculum, we aim to provide an excellent education for all our students; an inclusive education which raises aspirations and brings out the best in all of them and prepares them for success in education and later life. Our curriculum is progressive and designed to provide children with the core knowledge they need for success along their learning journey.

We have a team of dedicated, specialist curriculum and student welfare staff who work together to ensure that the needs of each individual child can be met. We work closely with our local community – families, schools, businesses and community groups with a shared common priority – our students who are front, back and centre of every decision we make at WOA.

As a result of the hard work, dedication and commitment of students, staff and our local community we are proud to share some of our more recent achievements with you:

  • In 2021 Ofsted stated that: “Senior leaders support and energise the whole school community.”
  • In 2020 HMI stated that: “The school’s vision is ‘Believe, Achieve, Succeed’. Staff and pupils embody this vision. Pupils are well behaved and polite. Many have excellent attitudes to learning because they trust the teachers to help them do the best they possibly can.”
  • We are full and oversubscribed for the 3rd year running.
  • Our attendance has increased at a faster rate than other schools nationally and despite the recent challenges all schools have faced as a result of the global pandemic.
  • We have maintained a continued upward trend of improved outcomes for pupils!

We believe that we all have an important part to play in raising standards – come in, meet the team and join us on our journey!
