Job overview

Queen Ethelburga’s is an independent Collegiate of four co-educational schools. Located in North Yorkshire between the towns of York and Harrogate, we offer outstanding facilities and motivated students who join us with a broad range of academic, social and cultural backgrounds. We pride ourselves on being a happy community where students can grow to reach their full potential, both academically and socially. To meet the needs of our students we offer a wide choice of qualifications, a supportive environment and an exciting programme of co–curricular opportunities, which are underpinned by high quality teaching and learning. The school actively promotes the professional development of its staff through induction, CPD and career development opportunities.

As a thriving day and boarding Collegiate, we have seen our numbers grow year on year, making us one of the largest school communities in the country. Our facilities are enhanced annually to help ensure that we have everything needed to allow our young people ‘to be the best they can with the gifts that they have’ (our Hill Standard).

We are looking to appoint a Teacher of Social Science from September 2020. Any specialism will be considered but we would particularly welcome applicants who can teach BTEC Business, BTEC Law, BTEC Psychology and A level psychology and Economics. Please refer to the Teacher of Social Science job description if you require additional information.

A full-time member of staff should expect to have 30 hours of directed time during a 40-hour working week; this may consist of teaching, form time, duties, department meetings (Mondays until 5:30pm) and prep.  Supervision of an evening prep session (Monday – Thursday) until 8:10pm is required on one evening each week.  Support for weekend trips on 2 occasions each year as well as attendance at Open Days and supporting extra-curricular events is also required.  All staff attend one school birthday event, one Christmas meal, all parents’ meetings and Speech Day at the end of the academic year. There is no Saturday morning school and we teach for 34 weeks of the academic year.

There is the potential to work with our Pastoral Team for the right candidate. We welcome applications from NQTs.

Closing Date: 28th February 2020.

Interviews will take place during the week of 3rd March 2020.

Applications will be assessed on an on-going basis so interested teachers are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. If you would like to discuss this role further, please contact: recruitment@qe.org and quote Ref TOSS2.20.
