Job overview

An exciting opportunity has become available to teach in the Social Sciences Department in a vibrant and improving setting at this “Outstanding” Catholic School (Section 48 Inspection Oct 2017). Are you a dynamic and enthusiastic teacher of Psychology and/or Sociology? If so, we are we are looking to employ an excellent Social Science teacher who can inspire students to the highest of standards. Whether you could teach both or just one of these subjects, the department is adaptable so this could be the job for you.

St Wilfrid’s is growing in size, from 5 forms of entry (FE) to 6. In September 2021 we introduced Psychology into the GCSE curriculum. The uptake for the subject was excellent resulting in two classes now in Year 11 and in our now second year, we have three classes in Year 10; this is an extremely popular option choice!

If you want to work in a School where everyone is valued and supported to be the best they can be (both students and staff) then this is the school for you. Please click on the following link or copy to your browser to get a flavour of St Wilfrid’s https://youtu.be/I5REzWqgTe0. As you will see from the link, we have great facilities, great staff and above all, great students!

This is a school that wants to be the very best it can be. Do you want to be part of that? This post would be ideal for an Early Career Teacher (ECT), and for anyone who wants to join a school where there may be future opportunities for progression. We really do value our teachers and actively support their professional development. For ECTs, we offer an in-depth programme of support and training based on the Early Careers Framework. We currently have 7 ECTs in their first year of teaching; this is a place where ECTs thrive! We really do value our teachers and actively support their professional development. You do not need to be a Catholic to work here, indeed many of our staff are not, but a willingness to embrace the ethos of the school is expected.

The strength of community at St Wilfrid’s is a strong one based upon mutual respect. The staff work incredibly hard and are prepared to go the extra mile for the students in their charge. Our students are amazing and they contribute enormously to making the school such a welcoming and productive place. Our most recent Section 48 Diocesan Report (October 2017) and our Ofsted Report (January 2018) certainly reinforce this aspect of school life. All potential applicants are invited and encouraged to arrange a visit – we firmly believe you won’t be disappointed!

St Wilfrid's Catholic School reserves the right to interview and appoint before the close date.

St Wilfrid’s Catholic School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Any successful applicant will be required to undertake a DBS check at an Enhanced level.

St Wilfrid’s has an extremely strong reputation in the community and as such, we are heavily oversubscribed with waiting lists in all year groups. We are a 6-form entry Catholic School but we increased in size to 7 forms of entry in September 2023 for Year 7 as a bulge class to help West Sussex with the demand for places. Our VI Form is incredibly popular and continues to grow in size. This is a great measure of our success.

The students love their school and staff love working here. In our most recent Section 48 inspection, where we were rated “Outstanding”, the inspectors commented, “in every interview the word “community” was one of the defining characteristics of St Wilfrid’s”.  In December 2021 a Diocesan monitoring visit reinforced these high standards, the report can be found here.

Students at St Wilfrid’s make “above average” progress overall and our reputation for this is countywide. We are determined to do even better.

If you are someone who wishes to work in a community which is inclusive and where every member is treated with dignity and respect then St Wilfrid’s is the place for you.
