Sociology is a very popular subject choice at both GCSE and A Level, where the AQA specification is delivered by a dedicated team of four specialist teachers, all of whom are themselves high quality Sociology graduates. The department prides itself on the professional development of its staff, who benefit from the support of experienced and passionate colleagues with a track record of delivering impressive outcomes for students. Outcomes at both GCSE and A Level are consistently amongst the best in the school. In 2018 the progress score at GCSE was in the top 5% in the country.

There is an average class size of 20 students at GCSE and we currently have three Year 11 classes. In Year 13 there are two classes of approximately 20 students, many of whom hold conditional offers to study Sociology or related subjects at prestigious universities, including Oxbridge.

Students enjoy participating in a range of extra-curricular opportunities outside of the classroom. In the younger years students attend a film club where they discuss sociological issues whilst our older students complete research projects in the local community and regularly attend lectures and seminars at local universities.
