The College is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and hardworking permanent, part-time Teacher of Sociology in this thriving department. The department offers A Level (AQA) Sociology.  

Sociology students have the opportunity to take part in a variety of course related trips. In the last couple of years, these have included a visit to the Newbridge Conference on Crime and Deviance at which ex-offenders and criminal justice professionals speak about their experiences of crime and a visit to the annual Women of the World Conference, where students have the chance to engage with some of the world's leading feminist thinkers.  

In the first year, students study:

  • Families and Households
  • Research Methods
  • Education
  • Research Methods in the context of Education

In the second year students study:

  • Global Development
  • Theory and Methods
  • Crime and Deviance

The College has a strong commitment to provide tutorial support and guidance for students. The successful candidate may be expected to manage a tutor group of lower and upper sixth students within the Faculty.   

This post is suitable both for experienced teachers and those beginning their career in the profession. Above all, we are seeking someone with an excellent knowledge of Sociology and the ability to make the subject come alive for our students. We also want to appoint a good team player who will be skillful at motivating and encouraging colleagues to try out new approaches and resources. The person appointed must be confident in the use of Information Technology in all aspects of their work. 

Salary for full-time: up to £39,695 per annum, inclusive of the Professional Standards payment and the Reigate College Allowance.
