Job overview

We are looking for a talented and highly effective individual to join us as a teacher of French and Spanish.

The Bishop of Llandaff is an 11-18 co-educational comprehensive school serving the Christian and non-Christian communities within the city and surrounding areas including The Vale of Glamorgan, Caerphilly, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Bridgend. Standards of achievement at all levels are exceptionally high, with outcomes consistently performing amongst the best schools in Wales and rest of the UK. However, the school is more than just about examination outcomes. Our students take part in a broad range of activities that help them become "well-rounded" and our strong Christian ethos helps shape our students to become positive role models in our society. It genuinely is a happy place to learn and work! We want every student to have the best start in life by providing them with an outstanding education! We seek to ensure each student in our care achieves their full potential academically; develops the skills necessary to be successful in our ever-changing world; and understands a sense of morality guided by the gospel values of love, acceptance, responsibility and forgiveness. These aims are delivered through a commitment to providing high quality learning experiences, a strong pastoral system and an extensive range of sporting, cultural, physical and extra-curricular activities.

About the role

Modern languages are very popular at the school, with French, German and Spanish offered throughout the age range. At GCSE and A level, there are viable groups following all languages and this has grown substantially in the last five years. Achievement in all three languages is very strong, with students consistently achieving at least expected progress. The languages team is located in A block and each classroom has its own dedicated equipment to ensure high quality learning. This includes interactive whiteboards, and visualizers. The team is situated in close proximity to Welsh and there is a good degree of sharing of practice between the two teams.

The post-holder would be expected to teach French up to and including A level, while Spanish to, at least, GCSE level. The role is likely to be for two, possibly three terms, to cover the maternity leave of the substantive post-holder. The role would suit a newly qualified teacher searching for their first position or an experienced teacher looking for a fresh challenge in a different context. All teaching staff are also issued with a 2-in-1 laptop device.
