Job overview

  THE ROLE

In our new Languages teacher we are looking for:

· an outstanding teacher of Spanish and French at KS3 and 4, with at least one (preferably    Spanish) to A Level

· an initiator of ideas who will work within the departmental team to build on progress

· a highly competent manager of resources and people;

· an enthusiast who is keen to inspire pupils and to continue to raise the profile and uptake of Languages at the school.

The post would suit a Newly Qualified Teacher, to whom full statutory support will be given by both the Head of Department and the wider Leadership Team; or someone now looking to develop their experience.

THE DEPARTMENT

The MFL Department is housed in three adjacent classrooms, several of which have recently been refurbished.  In addition, there are two Computer Rooms nearby and one is predominantly for the use of the MFL department as a Language Laboratory. All rooms are well equipped, with interactive whiteboards and there is now excellent wireless provision across the whole site.

The subjects are currently offered across the school. In Years 7-8, pupils undertake both French and Spanish. In Year 9 students must follow at least one MFL and then choose another two options which could be Latin, another MFL or ICT / Drama. A Language course is then taken at GCSE and both Spanish and French are offered to A Level in a growing department of three other full time teachers (though two have significant additional responsibilities) and a Graduate Assistant.

WORKSOP COLLEGE: CHARACTER OF THE SCHOOL

· A growing, co-educational independent school with 600 pupils, aged 3-18; at the senior age group, there are over 400 pupils in Years 7-13, 50% of them boarding.

· A majestic range of purpose-built Victorian buildings, with a particularly fine Chapel and Great Hall. The Library is currently being expanded and modernised as part of £1m investment in the ‘learning’ infrastructure.

· College grounds include an 18-hole golf course, an indoor swimming pool, a Sports Hall, tennis courts, netball courts, two Astroturf hockey pitches, an athletics track, four cricket pitches, six rugby pitches and two football pitches.

· The school has a strong Christian ethos, but welcomes pupils from all faiths or those who have no faith at all.

· The preparatory school to the College at Ranby House is a thriving, growing 3-11 school of c. 200 pupils.

WORKSOP COLLEGE: WHAT WE ARE ACHIEVING

· A wide range of academic ability, but excellent results. Most departments now offer positive Value Added and all are expected to through a series of interventions and initiatives. An increasing proportion of Upper Sixth leavers go to top 20 universities. Over 70% of GCSE examinations taken achieve A*, A or B with record numbers of successful Oxbridge applicants (significantly better than rival ‘academically selective’ schools).

· A plethora of different sports and a wide range of extra-curricular activities. National reputation for Cricket and Hockey. The school aims to be the school of choice in the region, with particular specialisms in key areas – Engineering, aspects of Music and Drama

· Constant development – a new boys’ boarding House (£3.5m) and a new House to accommodate Years 7 & 8 opened in 2016, with a further £1m invested in re-configuring and upgrading teaching facilities. The extended Library will open soon and a purpose-built Sixth Form Centre will enhance our established reputation as a destination of choice. Plans have been submitted to build an entirely new, £10m Junior School on this site within the next few years.

· Secure financial foundation and future, backed by the Woodard Corporation

PASTORAL CARE

In addition to the academic role, every teacher at Worksop is expected to contribute fully to the wider aspects of education. Worksop College is renowned for the quality of its pastoral care and all teachers are attached to one of the eight boarding or day houses. As a Woodard school, Christian values are at the very heart of a Worksop education and the successful candidate would be expected to uphold these values and to support the Chapel through attendance, for example, at the weekly school service. All members of staff at Worksop are expected to play a full part in the extra-curricular activities.  These embrace the full range of sports, music, societies, expeditions, drama, many forms of art and technology, CCF, voluntary service, and a wide range of hobbies.

Worksop College has its own salary scale. Living accommodation may be available. You are eligible to join the Teachers’ Pension scheme.

We take child welfare and child protection issues very seriously and the suitability of the successful candidate will be subject to stringent checks, for example through the Disclosure and Barring Service
