King Edwards School is a leading HMC, co-educational, independent day school in the Southwest of England.

We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced graduate to teach Spanish to all age groups in this thriving and popular department. The successful candidate will possess excellent subject knowledge, be an effective teacher who uses a variety of teaching methods and be able to work well as part of a team. They should be able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills, a willingness to innovate and the ability to foster positive and supportive relationships with both students and staff in the department. They will be able to teach across the whole range of age and ability, including A-level and in support of entry to Oxbridge and other leading universities. This position can be worked on a full-time contract basis or part-time, sitting around 0.8.

The ability to teach French to Years 7 and 8 is desirable and the ability to teach Year 7 German would be a distinct advantage. The exact number of contracted hours in the contract will depend on the languages the successful candidate offers.

A willingness to be involved in the pastoral and co-curricular life of this busy and vibrant School is expected, including being a Form Tutor and accompanying departmental trips.

The post is to cover a period of maternity leave and could be extended into the Autumn term 2023 by mutual agreement if the need arises.

Welcome

King Edward’s School was founded in 1552 and takes great pride in its long history as Bath’s oldest school. KES has held a special place in this wonderful city for well over four and a half centuries and is now firmly established as one of the leading schools in the South West of England.

As the city’s former grammar school, KES has a very healthy tradition of nurturing academic excellence and ambition, reflected these days in the School’s consistently outstanding results. Our pupils are bright, inquisitive, and aspirational, but they also have their feet firmly on the ground and understand that individual excellence shines most brightly in the service of the collective team effort.

“KES remains at the top of the academic pops in Bath and beyond.” The Good Schools Guide 2021

The ethos of the School is one that encourages all pupils to play as hard as they work and to make the most of all the wonderful opportunities here, both in and out of the classroom, that enable them to grow and thrive within a supportive and caring framework. We set the bar high, but we also give our pupils all the tools that they need to reach those ambitious standards. We aim to foster talent in all its forms and to open doors to enquiry and discovery. Independent-mindedness and creative spirit are strong suits, but so too is the sense of community that seeks to respect and value all its members.

“KES turns out young people who are not merely hard-working and well-educated, but compassionate and thoughtful to book.” The Good Schools Guide 2021

As a family of three schools, the Pre-Prep, Junior and Senior sections of King Edward's offer an inspiring and supportive environment for children age 3 to 18. Some join us just for the sixth form, many stay for their entire school career. All pupils are encouraged to be the best they can be and all are nurtured along the pathway to leading happy, fulfilled and successful lives at school and beyond.
