Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a full time Teacher of Spanish who is able to teach the subject to A-Level. The ability to teach another language to GCSE level is desirable, but not essential.

The position is suitable for either a teacher who is in the early stages of their career (including recent graduates) or one with more experience who is seeking to develop in a new and stimulating environment.

Spanish is a very popular subject at Ibstock and sits within the Languages Faculty, which also includes French, German, Latin, Mandarin and Classics. There are typically between three and five classes of Spanish at GCSE and numbers at A-Level remain strong, with two classes progressing into the Upper Sixth next academic year. Ibstonians regularly go on to study Languages at university.

We have a strong record of excellent examination outcomes at both GCSE and A-Level and are an experienced, friendly and collegiate Languages Faculty of fifteen teachers and Foreign Language Assistants across all of the subjects offered. The Spanish Department offers an annual trip to pupils in the form of a host family stay in Salamanca as well as a cross-curricular Sixth Form trip to Barcelona.

We also offer a wide range of co-curricular experiences within school such as taking part in, and hosting, debating competitions against other schools, daytrips to study Spanish cinema at the BFI and cookery sessions carried out in the target language.

This post will commence 1 January 2024

This is a term time only role, Monday to Friday, 8am to 4:30pm, with a six month probationary period.

Ibstock Place School is an independent co-educational day school for pupils aged 4 to 18. The school occupies a ten-acre site on the edge of Richmond Park in South West London.

An urban location with a beautiful botanical feel, Ibstock is the perfect home for scholarly exploration and adventure. Championing co-education since our founding in 1896, we have created a diverse environment that reflects real-world communities and workplaces.

Our school is over subscribed, with assessed entry at the age of four for Kindergarten (Reception). There is a competitive entry examination at the age of eleven and most pupils in the Prep School proceed on into the Senior School.
