At Moreton Hall we are passionate about STEM and have recently opened a new Science Building with state of the art laboratories and exceptional teaching facilities. With a large number of girls going on to study STEM subjects at university we are looking for an outstanding teacher to join our STEM Department.

The successful candidate would work with our STEM Team to ensure the delivery of first class teaching across the school with particular emphasis on Key Stages 3 and 4. The profile of Moreton Hall as a Centre of Excellence for STEM teaching for girls (and also boys in Moreton First) has been growing year on year and we are looking for a candidate to join a team that is committed to building on this reputation.

STEM Teacher:

The successful candidate would be expected to:

Teach across a range of STEM subjects (ideally 3 or more from: Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Computer Science) to GCSE level. Mathematics, in particular, will be looked upon favourably.

Participate in the extracurricular activities offered by the department.

Be familiar, confident and innovative with the use of ICT in STEM teaching.

Assist in the development of STEM as a career choice for pupils at Moreton Hall.

Assist with the delivery of a programme of science outreach to local schools where applicable.

Moreton Hall is one of the leading girls’ (and boys’ to Year 6 in Moreton First) boarding and day schools in the country and has been commended for the excellence of its teaching and learning. Top non-selective school in the country according to The Times. 

The department is thriving and the success is mirrored in the examination results averaged over the last 3 years: 

GCSE:  

91% achieved A*-A (or equivalent)

100% A*- B in Triple Science 

94% A* - B in all Science GCSEs

Candidates would be expected to participate fully in the life of this busy boarding school. A strong commitment to our extracurricular activities programme would be of particular importance. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, reliable and flexible in approach.

The salary, which is superannuated, is on Moreton Hall’s own scale, and is linked closely to the National Pay Spine, carrying generous extra benefits for residential duties. The school, which currently is for 450 pupils (girls 4 - 18 years, boys 4 - 11 years), is situated midway between Shrewsbury and Chester with excellent road and rail links to the Midlands and the North of England.

Located in the town of Oswestry, Shropshire, Moreton Hall is an all-through school with a Sixth Form for pupils between the ages of 3 and 18. The school was founded in 1913 in an Elizabethan manor house. Boys are accepted up to Year 8. 

Values and vision

Moreton Hall aims to provide a high standard of education by following a tailored curriculum. It offers a nurturing environment that allows girls to grow and excel, personally and academically. Pupils are able to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities on the school grounds. The principal believes the aim of the school is to “stretch the most able and support the least confident”. Teachers are there to inform and guide students to be lifelong learners.

“The curriculum is supported by an appropriate policy, detailed schemes of work and plans. It provides particular breadth in modern languages. Those with individual needs are identified carefully so that all pupils can learn and make progress. Pupils’ personal development is supported through personal, social, health and citizenship education. This encourages pupils to respect others and listen to their views. Teaching provokes a wide range of activities in class which develop pupils’ understanding.”
