Reports to

The Principal, through the Deputy Principal Head of Campus, Head of Middle School and relevant Faculty.

Position Summary

Expressions of interest are invited from outstanding teachers of Technologies (wood, metal, plastics) to teach in the Middle School (Years 5 – 8) at Yirramboi Campus in Keilor with the possibility of some Year 9 classes at the Canowindra Campus in Taylors Lakes. 

Key Qualities

The teacher we are seeking will have the following qualities:

• Enthusiasm for the ethos of the College, and a sense of excitement about learning for themselves as well as for their students.

• Detailed knowledge of the Australian Curriculum and VCE requirements as relevant to the position.

• Demonstrated expertise in teaching at relevant levels.

• Well-developed classroom management and communication skills, combined with an ability to engage students.

• Excellent general teaching skills and student-centred conceptions of knowledge.

• Strong understanding and appreciation of the social, relational, attitudinal, physical and cognitive development of students of the relevant age-groups.

• Skills in negotiating the curriculum, managing group work and catering for a wide range of interests, learning styles and abilities.

• An ability to incorporate information and communication technologies as an integral part of curriculum.

• Collaborative and proactive approaches to handling day-to-day matters.

• Willingness to contribute to Assemblies and Chapel Services.

Relevant Skills, Knowledge and Experience

• Previous experience teaching technologies.

• Knowledge of Restorative Practices.

Qualifications

• VIT Registration is essential.

• Further educational qualifications will be highly regarded.

Conditions of Employment

• All teachers will hold current registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).  It is expected that all staff will support the Christian ethos of an Anglican school.

Selection Process

A preliminary short list of applicants will be prepared and first-round interviews conducted by a panel, which will include the Head of Technologies and the Head of Visual Arts. Final appointments are made by the Principal or his delegate.

About Overnewton Anglican Community College - Yirramboi Campus

Overnewton Anglican Community College is a two-campus, co-educational, Prep to Year 12 educational facility, located in the north-western Melbourne suburbs of Taylors Lakes and Keilor, in the state of Victoria. The College had its origins at the Keilor campus site in 1987, with the second Taylors Lakes Campus coming on board in 1996. Today the two campuses house a student body in excess of 2,200.

Both campuses of Overnewton Anglican Community College have state of the art facilities across their expansive school sites. Keilor features a sports and performing arts centre, the school’s main library, the Richardson’s Centre Atrium, four tennis courts, netball and basketball courts, a full-sized sports field and specialist classrooms for visual arts. The Taylors Lakes campus features a chapel, a gymnasium, a multi-purpose hall, a library, the Year 9 Centre and a full-sized sporting oval to suit AFL and cricket. Various courts and playground equipment areas are also key features. The school also boasts an outstanding array of technological resources, supporting the students learning within the college.

Curriculum

The Junior School (Years P-4) curriculum provides quality teaching programs that focus on developing the fundamental knowledge, skills and behaviour in English and Mathematics, together with opportunities for the development of physical, creative and digital technology.

The Middle School (Years 5-8) has an ongoing and sequential curriculum and co-curricular programs. As with the Junior School, the Australian curriculum forms the basis of the lesson content, that builds on depth and breadth of knowledge skills and understanding. The school operates an innovative Year 9 Program that focuses on the ‘transformational uniqueness’ of 14- and 15-year-olds.

Senior School students are able to study in their areas of choice in a curriculum that features great flexibility and engagement culminating with two year VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education) programs.
