Job overview

Since Ely College and Bishop Laney Sixth Form joined the CMAT family of schools in 2016 we have been recognised by the Cambridge Evening News Education Awards as the Secondary School of the Year in 2018, in 2019 we were inspected by Ofsted and judged to be Good overall with Outstanding leadership and management.  We admitted our largest intake of Year 7 students in 2020 with 270 students joining us; and the confidence that the community has in our excellent pastoral care and quality of teaching means that we will be admitting a further 270 students in September 2021.

In order to meet this growth in our student numbers, we are currently a college of 1,300 and are projected to grow to over 1,600 within the next two years, we are embarking on an ambitious recruitment drive to appoint subject specialists with the values that we feel will be a superb fit with our existing staff.

We are looking to appoint a teacher of Technology who shares our core values which are set out clearly in the person specification and the job description.  This post will be a wonderfully rewarding experience for the successful candidate as they will be joining a supportive team which is well resourced and be part of our wider CMAT family of Technology teachers.  We are particularly interested in attracting a teacher with a preference or experience of Design & Technology at KS4 and all Technology at KS3.

To find out more about this role please read through the notes attached to this advertisement.  We would also encourage you to read through our website, newsletters and communication with parents – this will give you a clearer idea of what it is like to be part of our community.

To apply for this role, we ask that you submit an application form through the TES portal and that you also send a covering letter of application.  Details of what this should include and where it should be sent is set out in my letter to applicants.  We understand that applying for teaching roles requires a great deal of time and preparation so we commit to acknowledge the receipt of all applications and will notify you by the end of the working day on the 1st if you have been shortlisted or not.  We believe that if you take the time to apply for a role that you deserve the consideration to be notified if you have been unsuccessful.

CMAT is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This means that the post holder will have a shared responsibility for the safe guarding of all children and young people. The post holder also has an implicit duty to promote the welfare of all children and young people.

All staff will be subject to an enhanced check with the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS)

We are delighted to welcome you to Ely College.

Our shared vision is to be a truly great college, a beacon of excellence of which our whole community can be proud.

Since joining the Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust in July 2016, the College has gone from strength to strength. In 2018 we were named ‘Secondary School of the Year’ by the Cambridge Evening News Education Awards and in July 2019, we were delighted that Ofsted judged us to be ‘Good’ with ‘Outstanding leadership and management’. We are proud to have built even further on these successes with our recent GCSE results and our oversubscribed Year 7 intake.

Ely is a great place to live and a vibrant, supportive community. In partnership with our parents and the wider community, we are determined to improve the outcomes, destinations and opportunities for young people in East Cambridgeshire.

Ely College can boast some superb facilities and provides students with a wide range of opportunities for personal and academic development. You can be confident your child will be challenged and supported to secure the best possible outcomes. Our House system and smaller tutor groups help provide and encourage a number of opportunities for personal development as students work towards securing their PLEDGES (Participation, Leadership, Excellence, Diversity, Giving, Environmental and Service) both in and out of lessons.

I know that you want the best for your child, and as a parent myself I appreciate how important communication and confidence in our systems will be to you. Please be assured that we want to hear your views, and we welcome your input. We are very proud of our college, and welcome any chance to show new visitors or prospective students and families around. We think you'll like what you see.
