Job overview

The successful candidate will potentially teach pupils across the full age and ability range and will be expected to teach Technology at KS3 - Child Development and Food Technology/Hospitality and Catering at KS4.

As a classroom practitioner, candidates must have strong organisational skills, high expectations of all pupils, be a robust professional and have a desire to work closely as part of a collaborative team.

Our department consists of an experienced team of enthusiastic and skilled teachers and has dedicated classroom and technician support.

We are housed in purpose built facilities that include workshops, food rooms and textiles areas.  We benefit from having dedicated CAD/CAM facilities.

We operate a carousel system at KS3 and the students benefit from 3 hours over a two week timetable.  The carousel currently has three broad areas of study, resistant materials, textiles and food.  In year 7 we ask teachers to support transition by teaching the same class over the whole year, teaching all elements of the carousel.

At KS4 we are in the process of introducing more vocational courses.  Constructing the built Environment and Hospitality and Catering are new courses from September 2020.

Shortlisting will be carried out according to criteria which will be assessed using the completed application form and the letter of application that should accompany it. In this letter it would be helpful if you describe the core beliefs which shape your approach to teaching and learning, the impact you have had in your own classroom, and the impact you have had on the practice of other teachers. In essence, we want to know what you can offer our academy and our pupils.

Shortlisted candidates will be notified by email or phone.  We have yet to finalise the arrangements for the appointment process during these unprecedented times, but it is expected that there will be one or more conversations and ‘interviews’, via phone, Skype or other remote conferencing software. Although these are unusual times, the process will still be designed to give candidates every possible opportunity to demonstrate their strengths

To apply, complete our application form found within this advert.  Should you have any queries or require further clarification of any of the information relating to this post, please email:  recruitment@lordlawson.org.uk

We look forward to hearing from you.

Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy is a successful 11-18 mainstream co-educational academy which has improved rapidly over recent years. We recently celebrated achieving a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating in our November 2022 inspection. The improvement in progress 8 scores from 2019 to 2022 indicates we are the most improved school in Gateshead and among the top 10% of schools for improvement in the North East of England.

We provide an exceptional programme of CPD for staff. We know this through staff surveys and our exceptionally low levels of staff turnover. The majority of staff who have left us have gone on to promoted positions. Staff are happy here; Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy is a good place to work. We have high expectations of our staff and students, but we also know our staff are our greatest asset, and we treat them with respect. We value the development of all our staff and you will develop further as a teacher during your time here.

Our next steps are to build on our recent achievements, and to improve the attainment and progress of our disadvantaged students, including those with SEND. We also want to engage more effectively with our community, and continue to expand our already thriving extra-curricular offer for our students. Alongside these aims, we aim to expand our sixth form further, by attracting applications from other local schools, as well as ensuring more of our students complete key stage 4 with the qualifications required for further academic study.

We are an academy at the heart of its community and responsive to its needs while also recognising that our students are increasingly part of a global community.
