Job overview

A well-qualified teacher of Textiles Technology is required for a temporary maternity cover position from May 2018 to teach the subject throughout the School. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with the rest of the Faculty team and to develop teaching and learning in Textiles. We are also open to candidates who are interested in assuming a leadership responsibility within the department.

The teaching responsibilities are determined by:

1. the need in KS3 for Textiles Technology in designing and making activities;

2. the needs in KS4 of the pupils who have chosen to study Fashion & Textiles as part of the new AQA Level 1/2 Technical Awards;

3. the needs in KS5 of the pupils who have chosen to study BTEC Level 3 Art and Design.

In addition to these curricular requirements the person appointed would be expected to act as a Form Tutor and to play some part in extra-curricular activities.

The Textiles Department is housed in well-resourced specialist rooms in the DT Faculty, and is popular with students. The School has an extensive Wi-Fi network and provides laptops for all staff.

Darrick Wood School is a mainstream, co-educational, non-denominational secondary academy for 1700 children aged 11-18. It is situated in Orpington, Kent. In its most recent inspection by Ofsted (January 2019) the School was judged as “Good” in all areas.

The school was founded in 1975. In June 2004, it was awarded specialist status in technology. In 2010, Darrick Wood converted to academy status and a new Sixth-Form building was completed.

In 2015, the secondary school was awarded the World Class Schools quality mark.
