Job overview

St Dominic’s School is a special academy in Surrey and provides outstanding education for pupils aged 7-19 typically with a primary diagnosis of Speech Language & Communication Needs and/or Autistic Spectrum Condition. The school is located in Hambledon, close to Witley, Milford, Guildford and Godalming.

St Dominic’s School is part of Orchard Hill College & Academy Trust (OHC&AT), a specialist Trust with 12 Academies and seven College Centres across London, Surrey and Sussex.

At St Dominic’s we believe passionately in a multi-disciplinary, ‘needs led’ approach to meeting each child’s and young person’s needs, resulting in carefully managed groupings, including specialist intervention work from our in house therapeutic team.

The school works closely in partnership with families, referring authorities and external agencies to coordinate the best possible education, care, guidance and support for its pupils and students.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and strongly motivated individual to join our experienced team providing intensive specialist support for pupils and students. We seek a teacher who wants to develop their career, skills and knowledge in a specialist educational setting from Key Stage 2 to 5. Experience of working with children and young people with a range of needs including SpLD and Autism is desirable.

St Dominic’s has a bespoke Needs Led Curriculum that is designed and led by the therapy team. This is delivered to small class groups and tailored specifically to the needs of the group. This curriculum encompasses elements of relationships and sex education, the wider PSHE curriculum and therapeutic led input. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with our large therapy team to provide specialist lessons that are designed to support pupils and students with their communication skills, functional independence and emotional resilience.

In return, we offer excellent support from colleagues and staff, commitment to CPD, and access to internal and external training.

If you believe you can help our learners to fulfil their potential at school, at home and in their communities and are looking for a fresh challenge, then this role may be just what you are looking for.

Please note that CV applications will not be considered.

Closing date: 12 noon, Monday 21st June 2021

St Dominic’s School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Appointment to this post is subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure.
