Job overview

To teach/support visually impaired children and young people within allocated caseloads. This will mean travel throughout the area of Perth & Kinross offering support to schools with children who are visually impaired.

Requirements

  • Must be able to attend on a regular basis and cope with the demands of the job
  • Experience and/or training in teaching, preferably in the context of comprehensive education.
  • Knowledge of relevant current curriculum developments and their bearing on classroom practice – primary and secondary
  • Curriculum development in Curriculum for Excellence and NQ.
  • Supporting children and young people with additional support needs
  • Supporting children and young people with visual impairment
  • The ability to motivate children and relate positively towards them.
  • Supportive approach to collegiate activities Enthusiasm for participating in school activities and establish links with colleagues and other professional agencies
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Appropriate knowledge of curriculum and assessment issues relevant to the post
  • Full current driving licence and use of a vehicle
  • Willingness to undertake relevant professional training
  • Keen to further develop specialist skills and other aspects of the professional role.

Education & Qualifications

  • Fully GTC registered in primary or secondary subject
  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification

Responsibilities

  • teaching assigned pupils together with associated preparation and record keeping
  • developing and adapting the school curriculum
  • assessing, recording and reporting on the progress of pupils
  • preparing pupils for examinations and assisting with their administration
  • providing advice and guidance to pupils and parents on issues related to individual pupils’ education
  • promoting and safeguarding the health, welfare and safety of pupils
  • working in partnership with parents, support staff and other professionals
  • working with babies and undertaking home visits
  • undertaking appropriate and agreed continuing professional development
  • participating in issues related to school planning, raising achievement and individual review
  • contributing towards good order and the wider needs of the school
