Job overview

We are keen to appoint a dedicated and passionate primary, SEN or secondary experienced teacher, who has proven knowledge of teaching children with SLCN and SEMH needs, to support transition from our feeder primary schools into Year 7 and beyond. You will need to be committed to our virtues and driven by the desire to improve the life chances of all young people. This opportunity will suit teachers who have a passion and natural ability to engage hard to reach pupils and those with strong classroom presence. An ability to teach English at KS3 or KS3 & KS4 would be an advantage.

The primary purpose of the Step Up Group is to provide a safe, predictable, and supportive class for identified children to flourish through the celebration of success.  It is a place where students enjoy their learning and catch up with key literacy and numeracy skills and concepts in Year 7 in a small group environment. The lessons focus on the development of skills rather than content with a highly differentiated curriculum than that followed by the mainstream students and an additional focus on social skills, developing confidence and promoting independence. Lessons are carefully planned and take into account the needs, interests and abilities of all children so that learning is more purposeful and engaging, with the aim of supporting them with securing the basics and bridging the achievement gap to reach their full potential and enable them to transition into mainstream classes in Year 8.

We are looking for someone who is:
• An excellent teaching and learning practitioner who is passionate about the principles of nurture.
• Person centred and committed in their approach to meeting the needs of the children.
• Strong in their knowledge and planning for a nurturing curriculum.
• Able to provide/give the necessary support to overcome the barriers to learning.
• Creative and innovative, with a history of leading and implementing impactful change.
• An effective communicator with high quality people skills.
• Committed to demonstrating a growth mind-set and with a track record of finding solutions to overcome challenges.
• Organised and demonstrates efficient time management.
• Aspirational in their expectations of both staff and students.
• Confident to share opinions and work collaboratively with a range of staff, including external professionals.
• Interested in educational theory and research-based change.

You will be joining an ambitious and highly supportive organisation which offers:
• An excellent induction programme for teachers joining the school.
• A strong commitment to professional development which will improve your leadership skills, develop your understanding of whole school issues and prepare you for the next stage in your career.
• Motivated, enthusiastic and well-behaved learners who respond very well to active and engaging teaching and work well independently.
• A strong team ethos across the department and whole school.

We offer an incentive package which includes:
• A comprehensive induction programme for new staff to the academy.
• On-going investment into your career development through appropriate CPD including leadership development.
• Support and mentoring by a strong Senior Leadership Team and other experienced leaders.
• Access to the Bike 2 Work scheme allowing up to 42% discount on the cost of bikes and equipment.
• Full use of an employee assistance programme supporting wellbeing.
• A fabulous staffroom with complimentary tea and coffee.
• Complimentary breakfast of tea and toast.
• Subsidised membership of Benenden Healthcare (affordable alternative to private health insurance).
• On-site parking.
• Enviable setting and extensive grounds.
