St. Joseph’s College is a Roman Catholic School, which has a tradition of providing a secondary school education for children of other denominations whose parents make this choice.

It aims to provide a Christian environment where children can develop together in a caring and responsible community, based on their common beliefs, and in an atmosphere of mutual consideration and concern.

The Catholic nature of the school is an integral feature of the school, not in the sense that all pupils and staff are Catholic, but in the fact that it creates a unity of identity and purpose.

St. Joseph’s College, as a specifically Christian school, accepts the basic idea that most of its members - teachers, pupils, ancillary staff, and parents - are united in baptism as brothers and sisters in Christ, under the fatherhood of God. Thus the College must always strive to be a
community based on this belief. However, a minority of the school is non-Christian, therefore the College should be a community which shows genuine care for each member, where the personal dignity and integrity of each child and adult is respected, and one’s worth depends on one’s human dignity, rather than simply on one’s academic ability, or religion.

The Christian values and ethos of the school are encouraged and reinforced by the formal teaching of Religious Education and by the school praying together at assemblies or attending services provided by the College’s Chaplaincy team. Staff and pupils are encouraged to grow together through various projects and exhibitions, such as Children in Need; "Pro-Life” 'Campaign for Africa’; and ‘SCIAF’; which attempt to serve the College and the broader community in a Christian manner.

The teaching staff in St. Joseph’s College currently consists of:

1. Senior Staff - The Rector and 3 Depute Rectors

2. Principal Teachers (Curriculum, Pastoral Care and Pupil Support)

3. Subject Teachers, Pupil Support Staff and Music Instructors.
