Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding teacher, dedicated to helping our young people reach their full potential. The successful applicant will have experience of developing and delivering the secondary curriculum as well as being flexible to teach across both KS3 and KS4. The successful applicant would also ideally have experience of delivering Maths or English at secondary level.

As a suitably qualified teacher, the successful candidate will prepare and deliver high-quality and effective lessons and interventions that foster academic progress, alongside supporting the development of learners’ essential skills and emotional resilience in a stimulating and supportive environment. He/she will work in line with the SEN Code of Practice and have the ability to motivate and inspire young people experiencing social, emotional and mental or physical health difficulties. The role will mainly involve teaching students in a small group based setting.

Applicants must be able to evidence:

  • Recent experience of teaching primary-aged students who exhibit social, emotional and mental health difficulties
  • Their ability to successfully motivate and teach disaffected students within mainstream primary/secondary education and/or other settings
  • Their ability to support young people to make progress through a curriculum that embraces nurturing principles
  • Their ability to ensure the school meets the statutory requirements of the SEN Code of Practice
  • Their ability to lead and manage personalised learning programmes for pupils
  • Their experience of and ability to develop, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum in terms of progress and outcomes for pupils.

The person appointed must be flexible in all aspects of their work, as they may be required to teach in both specialist and mainstream settings as the needs of learners change.

  • The ability to use a flexible approach and a variety of techniques to enable disaffected students to access a personalised curriculum to meet their needs
  • Effective communication skills
  • The ability to be understanding, calm and supportive
  • Energy, patience, enthusiasm and a sense of humour
  • An ability to work flexibly and respond to change
  • A commitment to inclusive practices and the emotional resilience to manage a wide-range of student issues
  • A commitment to working in partnership with parents, mainstream teachers and outside agencies
