Second in Mathematics MPS/UPS + TLR 2

Required for January 2018 - a dynamic and ambitious teacher of Mathematics to help lead a successful and forward-thinking department in our 11-18 community school of 1200 pupils (200 in the Sixth Form). The ideal candidate will be someone in their first or second job who is ready to progress, and who is willing and able to contribute to the development of the department in a focused, innovative and creative way. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious professional to gain leadership and management experience.

Mathematics is a highly-regarded subject at The Friary with a history of excellent examination results at both GCSE and A-level. The successful candidate will be expected to support the subject leader in all aspects of the subject’s development, with particular responsibility for a Key Stage, although specific responsibilities can be negotiated upon appointment.

The Friary has a strong academic record and was judged ‘good’ in all areas by Ofsted in 2014. The school occupies an attractive site in the cathedral city of Lichfield and enjoys a high reputation for its academic achievement as well as the quality of its extra-curricular activities.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. This position is therefore subject to a criminal records check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Closing date: 3.00pm on Tuesday 17th October at 3.00pm

About The Friary School

The Friary School (www.friaryschool.com) is a popular and respected Lichfield secondary school which caters for well over a thousand local students and is the most over-subscribed school in South Staffordshire.

The school was judged ‘good’ by OFSTED (November 2017) and performs strongly in the national Performance Tables. Indeed, the OFSTED Report was glowing in terms of celebrating extensive changes to school practice and flagged up “a culture of high aspiration” alongside “abundant energy and enthusiasm”, and celebrated that we were a “rapidly improving school” which has an “unwavering commitment to helping all pupils achieve highly”.

Even so, the school is far from settled on ‘good’ and has put an action plan in place designed to propel the school to the ’outstanding’ benchmark and keep it there. The new Headteacher, Mr Matt Allman, commented: “The school is a great place to work but the real attraction to me is the potential. The school has the capacity not only to shine locally, but nationally.”

A visit to the school will see a well-ordered and enthusiastic community and the facilities are undergoing extensive refurbishment. The sports facilities are superb and there remains a thriving performing arts ethos tied to our old specialism.

Elsewhere, there are extensive extra-curricular activities, a busy Saturday School programme, large-scale community work, a buzzing PTA and a genuine commitment to staff development.

The Friary is a school we are proud of and one that we are committed to making better and better and better.
