Position Information 

Halinda School is located in the Western Sydney Mt Druitt area and services a diverse population within a low socioeconomic context. Forty seven percent of the parent population are from non-English speaking backgrounds encompassing twelve different cultures and languages. Assistance in negotiating educational planning and support services is critical for families and remains a strong focus in our strategic directions for 2021-2024. Halinda School enrols 115 students K-12 with moderate to severe intellectual disability. All students have a secondary disability that may include physical, sensory, health impairments, autism, diagnosed mental health conditions and challenging behaviours. School enrolments are trending towards early education students with autism, complex language needs and challenging behaviours. School improvement targets 2021-2024 will focus on enhancing personal learning and support plans, communication skills development and the implementation of evidence-based programs to enhance the social emotional wellbeing and engagement of students across school and community. This position will require a competent classroom practitioner with the ability to work collaboratively to implement evidence based special education practice across the grade.

  
Specific Selection Criteria 

Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience in teaching students with moderate to severe intectual disability, autism and behaviour difficulties K-6. Demonstrated successful implementation of evidenced based practice in teaching early learners with complex communication needs and autism spectrum disorder. Demonstrated ability to design and implement high quality Personalised Learning and Support Plans( PLaSPs)  for students with a wide range of learning needs. Demonstrated ability to differentiate and implement curiculum that maximises student social, emotional wellbeing and engagement. Willingness to develop and implement differentiated music and sports programs.Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with key stakeholders and achieve optimal learning outcomes for students. 

  
Conditions 

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
