Position Information 

At Lalor Park Public School we pride ourselves on being an inclusive learning environment, comprising of five P-6 mainstream clases and five support unit classes. The school has an enrolment of 190 students, including 40% from non-English speaking backgrounds and 13% Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students. Our school is focused on continuous improvement, fostering the needs of the whole child. The Itinerant Teacher Hearing (ISTH) position is based at Lalor Park Public School. The successful applicant will be required to travel between schools across the Bungarribee, Quakers Hill and The Ponds Networks in both Metropolitan North and Metropolitan South and West Operational Directorates to support the learning needs of students with a hearing impairment. The ability and willingness to travel between worksites is a requirement of this position. Students on caseload range from newborn through to Year 12 across a variety of settings. Two thirds of caseload students are enrolled in mainstream classes with the remaining third in support classes or Schools for Specific Purposes. The ISTH will work collaboratively with students, school staff, parents/carers and outside agencies to develop and support the implementation of invidualised programs for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH). Suitable applicants require a current driver's licence and comprehensively insured vehicle.

  
Specific Selection Criteria 

Approval to teach Hearing Impairment.

Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate quality, inclusive learning plans to meet the complex needs of students who are DHH from age of diagnosis to Year 12 across educational settings.

Knowledge and/or willingness to develop skills in sign language, augmentative communication systems and assistive technology.

Evidence of highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build and maintain relationships with students, schools, parents, communities and outside agencies.

 Knowledge of the Disability Standards for Education and capacity to apply The Standards when working with students who are DHH.

  
Conditions 

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
