Teaching ServiceMaitland Public School has 460 students (17% of which are of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent) and is in the heart of the city of Maitland. The school has 3 support classes – a class for students with emotional disturbances, a multi-categorical class and a class for students with mild intellectual disabilities. The school has a strong focus on quality teaching in literacy and numeracy and engagement of students through information technologies. Maitland Public School is committed to future focused learning, through collaborative and collegial teaching practices and developing the social and emotional well-being of students. The school is a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) School with several programs supporting student learning and engagement. Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with a range of support needs related to emotional disturbance, autism, intellectual disability, and complex challenging behaviours K-6.

Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to work collaboratively, proactively, and professionally with colleagues, parents, carers, school learning support officers, support agencies and the wider community.

Proven knowledge of effective teaching pedagogy and ability to effectively differentiate the curriculum to cater for a diverse range of abilities within a classroom.

Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive school culture and school-wide well-being practices with knowledge and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal education policies.
