Position Information 

Marrickville High School is a co–educational 7–12 comprehensive high school providing exceptional learning opportunities for students in the inner west of Sydney. The school is a caring and safe place of learning. Wellbeing initiatives focus on proactively supporting all students in improving their learning and ensuring they feel connected to the school community.

The school has a current enrolment of 523. The student population has been steadily increasing over the last five years and is expected to continue to grow in coming years. 57% of students enrolled at the school are from language backgrounds other than English. 20 students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. The school has a support unit, consisting of five classes as well an on-site Intensive English Centre (IEC).

The school is committed to a strong focus on student growth and attainment by widening curriculum offerings and strengthening the learning culture through enhanced whole school literacy and numeracy programs. Data driven, differentiated classroom practices have been developed and refined in a strong culture of professional learning and collaboration.

Students are encouraged to strive for their best and extra and cocurricular programs in creative and performing arts and sport enable students to excel in areas of interest and talent. The school has strong community partnerships and an active P&C who foster a mutually respectful relationship with the school to support and help inform programs and initiatives.

Specific Selection Criteria 

Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience teaching students with mild to Moderate intellectual disabilities, autism, challenging behaviours and complex learning needs.

Demonstrated ability to design and successfully implement effective and engaging teaching and learning programs across multiple key learning areas which meet the academic, social, emotional and behavioural needs of the students.

Demonstrated ability to design and implement relevant and successful Individual Education Plans and/or Individual Transition Plans for students with specific and diverse learning needs fostering a positive environment and culture of inclusion.

Highly developed interpersonal skills with focus on teamwork, effective communication and building relationships with students, colleagues, parents, external providers and the wider school community.

  
Conditions 

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
