Position Information 

Carenne School is a K-12 School for Specific Purposes (SSP) with an enrolment of 110 students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, autism, emotional disturbance and other additional learning needs across 17 classes.  Aboriginal students make up 20% of this number

The school has a very strong sense of community and is well supported by active parents and community members.  The school includes the Macquarie Tutorial Centre which provides specialist targeted behaviour support to primary and secondary students from local schools with one behaviour class and two permanent support class for students with Emotional Disturbance.

Specific Selection Criteria 
  1. Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with a range of disabilities and complex learning needs including autism, intellectual disability, physical disability and/or behaviour difficulties.
  2. Demonstrated ability to collaboratively plan, implement and evaluate individualised teaching and learning plans and programs across all Key Learning Areas which reflect the needs and aspirations of individual students.
  3. Strong classroom management skills and wellbeing practices, including trauma-informed positive education strategies with the ability to cater for a diverse range of students including those with high support needs. 
  4. Capacity to effectively communicate across all stakeholders within the school context including students, parents/carers, external agencies, to build respectful relationships and enhance a culture of inclusivity particularly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. 
  
Conditions 

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
