Values and vision

The school’s motto is ‘striving for excellence, caring for all’. Such a vision is one of great ambition, in which the individual need of each pupil is appreciated, while academic attainment is pursued to such a level as Musselburgh Grammar School becoming one of the pre-eminent education facilities in Scotland. The school’s core values are ‘honesty, determination, respect’ and these virtues are encouraged in all interactions between students, parents, and staff.

Extra-curricular excursions are highly encouraged at Musselburgh Grammar School, giving students the opportunities to get out of their comfort zone and explore the wider world. Previous years have seen trips to London and Alton Towers, and to international locations such as New York and Iceland.

Inspection Report

“Young people in S1 and S2 learn across all curricular areas. Courses and programmes reflect Curriculum for Excellence guidance well. The skills course in S2 supports young people to become more resilient and to persevere in their learning when things become more challenging. In S3, young people can select from a range of additional enrichment courses which broaden their skills base.”
