Job overview

For pupils with moderate learning difficulties and some additional needs

West SILC is on an exciting journey and looking to recruit an inspirational, creative teacher. If you, like us, are passionate about improving the life chances of young people, then this could be the right place for you. West SILC is a very successful all age generic special school. We are seeking to recruit a teacher, to work in a secondary class on the main site, with students who have moderate learning difficulties and some may have additional needs such as Autism, SEMH or communication. Learners in the semi- formal curriculum access the national curriculum at a differentiated rate. Due to their barriers to learning, most pupils need specialist teaching, more repetition and time to process and remember new skills. Learning is presented via 1/2 termly topics addressing subject specific learning as well as developing life skills and achieving outcomes from their EHCP.

You will offer us:

  • Highly effective teaching and learning (working from pre-Key Stage standards to year 1/2 primary expectations)
  • High expectations of pupil achievement
  • Excellent relationships with all pupils and staff
  • Understanding of a restorative approach
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A commitment to professional development
  • Confidence, passion and enthusiasm

We will offer you:

  • A welcoming school where the children enjoy learning, are positive and cheerful
  • An excellent opportunity to make a difference at our school
  • An inclusive school which strives to meet the needs of all our children
  • A team of dedicated and committed staff and Governors

Applications from NQT’s with some SEN experience are welcome.

West SILC is an equal opportunities employer, committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff and volunteers are expected to share this commitment.

An enhanced DBS check is required for appointment to this post.
