The role

This is going to be an investigative role for you, which is what makes it so exciting. It’s all about learning what each pupil is particularly interested in and how they learn and are motivated. Then channeling those factors into the way you teach each of the subjects so that every pupil gets the most out of them. The role is to teach a Year 7 group based on the nurture principles. The successful candidate will feel confident teaching a range of subjects including English, Maths, Humanities and PSHE to Key Stage 3. The vacancy would also be suitable for an experienced Key Stage 2 teacher wishing to teach up to Key Stage 3.

One challenge in particular will be how you overcome the aversion some of our pupils have to writing. How will you enable them to engage with English, Maths, Humanities and PHSE in pictorial, tactile and activity-based ways that will bring the subjects to life and allow them to express their understanding? The support you’ll receive in meeting that challenge is what separates Witherslack Group from everyday schooling. It’s about much more than instilling pupils with the knowledge to get them through the exam. Of course, you’ll be their go-to person when it comes to exam arrangements and helping with presentations but your impact on the moral, emotional and even spiritual development will be just as profound. By inspiring and engaging our young people, you’ll facilitate the kind of learning that continues after the bell goes and stays with them throughout life.

You’ll be working with young people at Key Stage 3. It will be challenging and rewarding in equal measure, but whether you’ve given a particularly inspiring lesson or helped a pupil with a presentation or exam arrangements, you can expect to take home a sense of having done something amazing every single day. As all teachers know, some of those days may be harder than others but, at Witherslack Group, you’re never alone. You’ll work as part of a collaborative team, not just with other teachers across the school and Group but with our in-house psychologists, family liaison officers and therapy professionals. All pulling together to create the best possible outcomes for our pupils.

The person

We’re looking for a Teacher with a vision. The kind of person who wants to make a difference and knows the pathway that will allow them to do so. Someone who also wants to be part of the conversation when it comes to group decisions on how we, as a Group, best meet the needs of each child with regard to training, support and annual reviews.

Aware of the standards that Ofsted look out for and always conscious to exceed them, you’ll be the kind of teacher who is never anything but engaged and engaging. What’s more, you’ll be excited by the prospect of our small class sizes of 8 pupils or less, (with at least one Teaching Assistant) and will seize upon this as an opportunity to tailor learning to individuals and build stronger, more insightful teacher/pupil relationships. Empathetic and passionate, you’ll understand that our pupils’ journeys aren’t necessarily linear. If you haven’t worked in SEN before, but are enthusiastic and motivated to make the move, we’ll give you all the additional training and support you require.
