We are looking to appoint a teaching assistant to be part of our friendly and hardworking student support team. In the last couple of years Caludon has invested into this team and actually increased the number of support staff to ensure the young people in our school achieve their full potential.
We renamed the Teaching Assistants in our team to Student Support Mentors and this is because all Student Support Mentors have a cohort of students that they get to know and mentor. This opportunity is for a Year Student Support Mentor whereby you would be a key worker to an identified year group, inspiring and enthusing a number of identified students to achieve their termly targets, and also to provide assistance to classroom teachers with timetabled intervention/support.
Our student support team really is integral to the school’s vision to ensure young people overcome barriers to learning. Ideally you will be a graduate with excellent numeracy and literacy skills so that you can support the young people in our school with their English and Maths. You will be approachable, enthusiastic, motivated and resilient and able to support our vulnerable students as well as our most able, encouraging them to become independent learners.
This is a unique opportunity to combine providing specialist support in a traditional teaching assistant capacity, mentoring a cohort of students, whilst also observing a wide range of lessons across all subjects and years, enabling you to glean good practice from colleagues and teachers. This post would suit an experienced Teaching Assistant or someone looking to enter teaching, as the position would offer school-based experience prior to applying for a PGCE or School Direct opportunity.
Through the leader in our student support faculty, we provide comprehensive induction training so that you can shadow our other staff, get a really good understanding of our systems and policies and have the opportunity to ask questions and get to know our students during your induction programme.
