   PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

1. To show knowledge of and apply a range of approaches to assessment, including those specific to SEN and the importance of formative assessment / Assessment for Learning as required by the teacher.

2. To provide learners with accurate and constructive feedback on their strengths, weaknesses, attainment progress and areas for development, within a supportive framework to assist progress and attainment.

3. To develop knowledge and understanding of their curriculum areas and related pedagogy, where applicable, so that you can support your learners more effectively.

4. To know how to use skills in literacy, numeracy and ICT to support students learning.

5. To develop an understanding of how you can support children and young people with SEN’s development, progress, and well-being of learners who are affected by a range of developmental, Learning difficulties and disabilities, sensory, physical disabilities, speech and language difficulties, social, religious, ethnic, cultural and linguistic influences.

6. To assist colleagues in making effective well differentiated provision for those they teach and take practical account of diversity and promote equality and inclusion through their teaching support.

7. To understand the roles of colleagues and the contributions they can make to the learning, development and well-being of children and young people.

8. To know how to draw on the expertise of colleagues and to refer to sources of information, advice and support.

9. To demonstrate a clear understanding of the legal requirements on the safeguarding and promotion of well-being of children and young people.

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS

1. To support activities for learners which promote their literacy, numeracy, ICT and thinking and learning skills appropriate within their phase and context.

2. To support homework, out-of-class assignments and coursework for examinations (where appropriate) at the direction of the teacher.

3. To teach individuals and small groups through challenging, well-organised sessons to meet individual SEN’s across the age and ability range.

4. To teach engaging and motivating sessions, setting clear expectations for learners.

5. To provide accurate and constructive feedback on learner’s progress and areas for development as required from your observations to your colleagues when required.

6. To support and guide learners so that they can reflect on their learning, identify the progress they have made and become successful independent learners.

7. To self review the effectiveness and impact of your teaching on learners’ progress and attainment and well-being.

8. To support and help establish a purposeful and safe learning environment.

9. To identify and use opportunities to personalise and extend learning in collaboration with the teacher.

10. To maintain a clear and positive framework for discipline, in line with school’s behaviour policy.

11. To promote learners’ self-control, independence and cooperation through developing their social emotional and behavioural skills.
