Job overview

We have a rare and exciting opportunity for a full-time temporary teaching assistant to join our successful, independent, selective day school in rural Leicestershire working with our Reception class and Nursery children initially from April to July 2022.

We are looking for an outstanding Teaching Assistant with the enthusiasm and dedication to support our Reception children, as well as to work in the Nursery on a one to one basis. Joining the Dixie team you may also have the opportunity to work across our Junior School and Nursery site and the position may become permanent in the future.

Applicants should have a Teaching Assistant qualification and previous teaching assistant experience, preferably in an EYFS setting. Experience of working with children with special educational needs would be an advantage.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch, using the email address below, for more information or to arrange a visit to our school.

The school is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and we expect all candidates, staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Appointment to this role will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks being completed and an enhanced DBS clearance. Please note that applicants invited for interview will be required to complete a self-declaration of any criminal records or information which might make them unsuitable to work with children.

Please complete the attached Dixie Application Form (please note that CV applications will not be accepted) which should be sent together with a covering letter addressed to Emma Billington, Headteacher to hemsworths@dixie.org.uk no later than midday on Friday 25 March. Early applications are encouraged.

Welcome to The Dixie Grammar School

Our teachers are highly motivated and gifted individuals who are able to inspire pupils with their enthusiasm and subject knowledge. They are committed to high quality teaching and participate in the extensive co-curricular programme. Most are graduates with postgraduate certificates.

Those who join us without PGCEs are supported to gain the qualifications soon after appointment. Training and professional development programmes are established, and we are experienced in managing Newly Qualified Teachers.

Our staff are both ECTs and experienced teachers; providing a stimulating and rewarding environment.

All staff are given access to an employee assistance programme the benefits of which are extensive and include immediate families.  The Dixie Grammar School Pay scale is above the maintained sector pay scale and children of staff enjoy a significant reduction in tuition fees.

We are proud of our focus on developing colleagues as well as students. We have a high level of staff retention with staff typically remaining at the Dixie for a number of years and some for their whole careers. We also have many examples of teachers who have successfully moved into more senior roles at the Dixie and also some who have moved on to take promoted posts in similar schools.

Our high standards and high expectations of all at the Dixie are seen in all we do. Interaction between all in our community is built on our newly-emphasised values - Respect, Resilience, Courage, Commitment and Care; from the Chair of Governors to our youngest in Pippins, between teaching staff, support staff and students, we aim for our dealings with each other to be characterised by these values.
