About St Michael's Church of England High School

St Michael's Church of England High School is a co-educational, Church of England, secondary academy based in Chorley, Lancashire, for students aged 11-16.

The school was founded by local residents more than 50 years ago. The founder members wanted a church school for local children and set about raising the funds to construct a purpose-built school in the heart of Chorley.

Values and vision

St Michael's Church of England High School’s Christian ethos is central to all that it does. All aspects of life at the school, including assemblies, worship and the curriculum, provide opportunities for students to reflect on their character traits and how they might achieve academic, physical and emotional wellbeing.

Teachers believe that success is not just about academic achievements, but also the growth of the whole child in mind, body and spirit. The secondary school is an environment where both independent and collaborative study are encouraged. It takes a personalised teaching approach and delivers engaging lessons underpinned by a clear behaviour framework.

Ofsted report

"Pupils’ achievement is outstanding. They enter the school with standards that are above average and, by the end of their five years in the school, reach standards that are consistently and exceptionally high and make outstanding progress. The gap between girls’ and boys’ achievement is much narrower than that found nationally and there is no significant difference in the achievement of those who have learning difficulties and/or disabilities or of the very few pupils who speak English as an additional language."
