About the Teaching Assistant role

We have an exciting opportunity to appoint a Teaching Assistant to join our SEND department. The SEND department provides support to our students across the Academy who have EHCPs (Education Health Care Plans) and other additional needs to enable them to reach their full potential regardless of any potential barriers to learning they may face. You will provide learning activities for both individuals and groups of pupils under the professional direction and supervision of a qualified teacher, differentiating and adapting the learning programmes so that they suit the needs of the pupils.

You will also monitor and record pupil responses and achievements, drawing any problems that cannot be resolved to the attention of the teacher. Alongside this, you will also support pupils in social and emotional wellbeing, and where appropriate reporting problems to the teacher and/or Designated Senior Lead as appropriate, ensuring that any established procedures are followed.

Alongside this, you may also be required to supervise the work of other support staff/trainees, provide short term cover supervision of classes, invigilate exams and tests, escort and supervise pupils on educational visits and out of school activities and assist pupils with eating, dressing and hygiene as required.

As a member of our staff, we can offer you the following:

  • Enhanced salaries and promotional prospects within the school.
  • Opportunities for continued professional development and access to the BWT Teaching School & Ambition hub
  • The support of a cohesive and committed team of teachers who work collaboratively to maintain high standards and expectations
  • A daily allowance entitling you to a freshly prepared hot or cold breakfast and lunch

Our school was founded 26 years ago in order to transform the education of young people in the community, and we have. Yes, we are outstanding, driven by the needs of our students and our core values. We are never complacent and always restless to improve. Our Academy was born out of the need for change, to be different and innovative; we were designed to be a laboratory of learning in an educational area of disadvantage. We are valued within our community with almost 1000 students applying for the 180 places in year 7 this year.

More than 7,000 students between the ages of 3-18 are now educated in a Brooke Weston Trust school, supported by more than 1000 passionate members of staff.
