Job overview

We are looking for a talented, hard-working and motivated individual to join us as a teaching assistant.

Caldicot School is an 11-18 co-educational comprehensive serving the local and wider community. The school has over 1300 students and is situated between Chepstow and Newport, with easy access via the M4 corridor and on the northern side of the Severn Estuary. The school is at an exciting stage in its history. In September 2017, the school moved to a new £36m purpose-built site and now boasts some of the finest facilities in the country. In June 2019, a formal partnership between Caldicot School and The Bishop of Llandaff CiW High School in Cardiff was established, with a shared executive model of leadership. Since this time, there has been a significant number of changes at the school which has supported rapid improvements in provision and outcomes. This includes a new staffing structure, with clear career progression routes for staff, as well as a refined curriculum, designed to strengthen knowledge, understanding and skills. Students take part in a broad range of activities that help them become "well-rounded" and the school's commitment to a values-driven education helps shape students to become positive role models in our society. It genuinely is a happy place to learn and work!

About the role

The inclusion department supports students within our unique specialist resource base (SRB). The SRB caters for students with a range of complex learning and physical needs. In addition, members of the team also support a number of students within mainstream learning. At present, the SRB has approximately 10 students within each year group. However, owing to the individual needs of students, classes are grouped by ‘stage of learning’ as opposed to ‘curriculum age’. A team of subject specialists work with students to offer a meaningful curriculum that prepares them for the next stage in their development and, ultimately, adult life. The successful post holder will work with class teachers to support individual students and classes to help students overcome barriers to learning. The post would suit an individual with experience of working with students with additional learning needs in either a primary or secondary setting. All new members of staff receive a very strong programme of induction, which includes an allocated member of staff to support with the operational elements of joining a new school, as well as a tailored support package to meet individual needs.

Closing date for applications: 20th May 2021 at 12 noon.

Caldicot is an 11-18 co-education school with over 1300 students in Monmouthshire. We are located between Chepstow and Newport and the school is easily accessible via the M4 corridor and on the northern side of the Severn Estuary.

Founded in the late 1950s, Caldicot School has provided an education to families from within the town and surrounding areas for more than sixty years. In 2017, the school relocated to a brand new site and now boast some of the finest educational facilities in the country.

Our vision, ethos and core purpose clearly shapes our behaviours and actions in supporting each member of our community as summarised below

Caldicot School is committed to achievement for all students through the promotion of excellence. We respect the rights of all individuals and aim to ensure all our students acquire the skills in readiness for adulthood.

We seek to ensure all our students are happy and safe; achieve their full potential; develop the skills, knowledge and understanding to take their place as responsible citizens in society. Our vision is to inspire students to value education as a life-long experience which will continue into the world of work and leisure.

At Caldicot, we promote the core values of honesty; tolerance; respect; and responsibility. This seeks to encourage students and staff to respect others within the school, our local community and wider society.

In June 2019, Caldioct entered a unique formal partnership with The Bishop of Llandaff, in Cardiff. An Executive Headteacher oversees progress, provision and leadership across both schools, while a Head of School is responsible for the day-to-day management of each institution. As a partnership of two schools, staff have access to the highest quality training and development to support student achievement and progress.
