Job Title: Teaching Assistant 

Pay Scale: NJC Scale 4, point 18 – 21 (£18,070 - £21,541) pro rata, per annum

Contract Type: Full-time/Permanent 

Hours: 8.30am – 4pm, 5 days a week (Term-time only)

Responsible to: SENDCO. Head of School, Subject Teachers 

Job Purpose: To work under the guidance and direction of the SENDCO to support teaching, learning and assessment and ensure that the needs of all learners are met by providing targeted support to students within and beyond the classroom. 

Core Responsibilities 

• Establish a good rapport and respectful, trusting relationships with students, acting as a role model and setting high expectations. 

• Facilitate access to the curriculum for all students, including those with particular educational needs. 

• Provide support for students through 1-1 and small group work which will include activities designed to support the development of literacy and numeracy skills.

• Support in the differentiation and adaptation of learning programmes and resources to meet the needs of identified students. 

• Help students to develop independent learning skills, monitoring, recording and assessing student progress and attainment as agreed with the teacher and/or SENDCO

• Promote and support inclusion in all areas of the curriculum, including enrichment and extended learning time. 

• Adapt your approach to provide support for students with specific needs, including:  learning, behavioural, communication, sensory or physical difficulties. 

• Assist identified students with all aspects of school life, including routines, organisation, planning and self-management. 

• Liaise with the classroom teacher to ensure that students’ learning needs are met 

• Support the classroom teacher in maintaining high expectations of behaviour, uniform and punctuality in line with school policy. 

• To take on supervision duties as directed by the Head of School and/or SENDCO. 

• Accompany teaching staff and students on visits, trips and out-of-school activities as required and take responsibility for a group under the direction of a teacher.

  

Monitoring, Assessment and Review 

• Provide feedback to students in relation to progress and achievement under the guidance of the teacher. 

• Report progress to teacher following the delivery of agreed learning activities. 

• Monitor and evaluate students’ responses to learning activities through observation and planned recording of achievement against pre-determined learning objectives. 

• Provide objective and accurate feedback and reports as required, to the teacher on student achievement, progress, ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence. 

• Support the tracking of student progress by undertaking general clerical/administrative tasks related to student learning, progress and review, as directed by the SENDCO or Classroom Teacher. 

• Assist with the development and implementation of targeted support plans including EHCPs and complete records for identified students as directed by the SENDCO. 

• Provide support in the provision of Access Arrangements for exams as directed by the SENDCO or Classroom Teacher.
