Outwood Academy Portland places students at the centre of everything it does, with a focus on creating a culture of success, a positive climate for learning, and increased student attainment, achievement and social and emotional development. Our staff are dedicated to securing the best possible outcomes for every student and are enormously proud of Ofsted’s Outstanding rating awarded in 2014.  The hard work of our staff means that the academy is ranked well within the top 10% of schools nationally for student progress and in 2019 83% of our students achieved Grade 4 or above in English and Maths. But that’s just the beginning. Today we’re Outstanding; tomorrow, with your talents, we’ll be even more exceptional.

We wish to appoint a dedicated teaching assistant to join our existing Inclusion team. There are currently both permanent and temporary positions available to meet the growing need for support in the academy. The purpose of the post is to carry out a range of duties that enable students with learning needs to fully access standard and differentiated curriculum activities. The post holder will work closely with all other members of the Inclusion team to promote high standards of inclusion and learning opportunities.

As an experienced teaching assistant you will be extremely well organised, IT literate and have excellent communication skills both written and verbal.  It would be advantageous to be qualified to NVQ3 or equivalent and have experience of supporting students with specific needs.

Details and application forms can be found on our website at www.outwood.com or contact our HR department on 01909 471023, email: hr@portland.outwood.com. Please note that CV’s will not be accepted as part of our recruitment process.

Closing date: Midday on Monday, 24 February 2020.

Interview date: Thursday, 27 February 2020.

Please note that there is currently a job evaluation exercise being undertaken across the Trust. The salary advertised for this post is therefore subject to job evaluation and may change.

Chief Executive Officer: Lee Wilson

We are proud that Outwood Academy Portland is rated Outstanding by Ofsted. We are an 11-18 academy based in the large friendly town of Worksop, near Sheffield and Nottingham.

Since joining the Outwood Family in 2012, our students have achieved impressive exam result success.

We have created an educational environment where staff and students constantly strive to improve; where teachers sharpen their skills and expand their repertoires to deliver an outstanding learning experience; and where teachers, classroom assistants, mentors, tutors, inclusion support assistants and students operate as a seamless team. This enables everybody, staff and students, to not only see but also help fulfil the potential in each other. Following its latest visit, Ofsted noted that our ‘teachers and support staff comment positively about the opportunities they have for regular training to develop their skills.’

We believe our success speaks for itself as we are above the national average for the number of students achieving at a Grade 5 or above in English & maths GCSEs. We are also proud to have been awarded Bronze Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

If you share our vision, join our family.
