King's Infant School

King’s Infant School is located in the Chamartín district in the north of Madrid.

Pupils follow the English National Curriculum and are taught by experienced, caring British qualified staff. In the Foundation Stage ( Nursery and Reception) the children have direct access to their Outside Learning Environment. In Key Stage 1  we embrace the resources of Madrid and have good links with Museums and Parks in the city centre.

At the end of Key stage 1, the children transfer to either King’s College Soto de Viñuelas or to King’s College La Moraleja. There is a strong transition programme with both schools and the children adapt quickly into Year 3.

There is an Induction English Programme for children entering into Year 1 and Year 2 with limited English. Spanish is taught in both Yr 1 and Yr 2 and there is an additional Spanish Club for International Children entering the school.

Music and Drama and P.E play an integral part in the schools daily curriculum. As part of the extra curriculum Optional Classes children have the opportunity to learn both the Piano and Violin. There is also a Music initiation Group. After school children can join Ballet and Judo classes.

Each class is named for an animal and within the school we have a House System. The houses are vertically streamed and the older children from Yr 2 have the opportunity to become House Captains and take responsibility in daily school life. House points are earned through good behaviour, responsibility, friendship and good effort in their academic achievements. Throughout the school everyone follows the Golden Rules underpinning principles of respect for others and oneself and friendship and effort. All aspects of social and academic achievements are celebrated through certificates, stickers and recognition in school assemblies.

We aim to provide children with the educational experiences which develop a positive approach to learning, and create a learning environment which is enhanced by making the child feel at home at school.

Self-discipline, a sense of responsibility, and respect for others are encouraged. Classroom walls are covered with displays of children’s art and craft, as well as pictures on interesting topics and language-based information to help them develop literacy skills.
