Teaching Assistant

Are you passionate about encouraging and supporting young people to overcome personal challenges and push them to become the best version of themselves?

Do you have experience working with SEN children or adults, or are you a Teaching Assistant looking for that next challenge?

Here at Peak we are currently recruiting for a resilient and driven SEN Learning Support Assistant to join our team of highly qualified teachers, based in our school in Cannock.

This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity for both aspiring and experienced SEN Teaching Assistants.

Who are Peak Education?

  • We pride ourselves on delivering bespoke academic packages to SEN children and young adults.
  • As well as supporting our students to excel in basic academic lessons, we also offer an array of social enrichment learning through both creative and practical approaches such as cookery, art and music.
  • What separates us from other schools is that we also offer an array of vocational studies. We reward our students with outdoor activities, ranging from climbing walls, mountain biking and canoeing at our outdoor centres with our qualified Instructors.
  • We are committed to investing in young people to enhance their skills and experiences in the classroom and outdoors.

What the role involves:

  • Mentoring, supporting and inspiring learners by supporting them with curriculum-based learning in the classroom and through outdoor activites.
  • Managing challenging behaviours, verbal and physical altercations on a regular basis and being able to utilise restraint techniques (full training provided).
  • Assisting with the preparation of learning material and contributing to the delivery of learning objectives with a strong focus on behavioural management.
  • Daily reports on learners’ progress and barriers to learning.
  • Interaction with parents/care givers on a regular basis.

What do you need:

  • Previous experience working in similar challenging environments would be a distinct advantage, as would a background in youth work, teaching or complaint handling and resolution.
  • Due to the nature of the role you must hold a full clean UK driving license.
  • A minimum if A-C in GCSE Maths, English and ICT and have certificates available.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A can-do attitude and willingness to get involved both classroom and outdoor activities such as rock climbing, water sports and mountain biking.
  • Be a good mentor/role model and be able to engage with learners at their level.

Join us as a Teaching Assistant at our school in Cannock and you will receive:

  • The Real Living Wage as a minimum
  • Full induction and introductory programme
  • Fully funded CPD training and NVQ teaching courses.
  • Enhanced pay scales that recognise both qualifications and experience
  • A great employee Benefits programme
  • NEST Pension Scheme
  • Life assurance
