Wilmslow High School

• School age range: 11-18

• Number on roll: approx. 2,000 (including 500 sixth form)

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and committed Team Leader of Economics, with a track record of examination success, looking to develop professionally by taking on a Team Leadership role within a team who believe strongly in the power of a high-quality Business, Economics and Enterprise education for young people across all three key stages.

At Wilmslow High School, A-Level Economics is a popular Sixth Form option choice with approximately 100 students studying the subject, many of whom go on to pursue linked degree courses at university.

The Team offer an extensive range of Business, Economics and Enterprise courses that lead to GCSE, A-Level and BTEC qualifications, with an enterprise project forming part of the Key Stage 3 curriculum experience.  There is also a thriving programme of extra-curricular activities involving the Young Enterprise Scheme, the ICAEW BASE Competition, Manchester Airport’s Dragon’s Den programme and a KS3 Enterprise club.  Consequently, in addition to A-Level Economics, the successful candidate would have the opportunity to teach on these courses or in other related curriculum areas depending on their own expertise and experience.

As a school which invests heavily in professional learning, promotion of the Wider Curriculum and in provision of excellent personal development and pastoral care for our young people, the role offers excellent opportunities for colleagues wishing to grow and develop professionally and personally.

The successful candidate will believe that every child is most likely to achieve their full potential when challenged in a high-expectation learning environment.

The teacher appointed will be an excellent practitioner with flair and ambition, able to engage and challenge students to enable them to achieve their best and will possess the following qualities.  They will:

• Offer a high degree of subject competency with passion for, and commitment to, high-quality Economics education

• Possess the flair and ambition to inspire and motivate young people of all characteristics and backgrounds to aspire and achieve in the study of Business and Economics

• Believe that every teacher needs to improve, not because they are not good enough, but because they can be even better (Dylan Wiliam)

• Possess a willingness to embrace new technology and techniques for promoting Economics, Business and Enterprise Education, engaging students and encouraging an international perspective.

Young people only get one chance at education; therefore, at Wilmslow High School we are committed to the pursuit of excellence for every student, every day. We do this through our dedication to learning, by being guided by values and in striving to serve.

We endeavour to preserve a happy and caring environment that is rooted in our core values, and in which staff and students can flourish, whilst challenging ourselves to pursue excellence for all our students. The school is set in extensive grounds, ideally positioned between the thriving city of Manchester and the open countryside of the Cheshire Plains and the Peak District.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff to respect this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

About Wilmslow High School

Rated as Good by Ofsted in 2019, Wilmslow High School is heavily oversubscribed in both the 11 – 16 sector and the sixth form. Student numbers have increased with more and more students from outside the town and from the independent sector of education seeking places. As the only state secondary school in the town. It enjoys good relationships with the partner primary schools in Wilmslow, Handforth and Alderley Edge, from where the majority of our students come

Location

Wilmslow, a pleasant commuter town with a population of about 32,000, is situated on the southern outskirts of Manchester. It is within easy reach of attractive countryside both locally and in the nearby Peak District. The town is well served by the motorway network and by rail; Manchester Airport is nearby. The town is mixed socially, with many areas of affluence and some communities of relative social deprivation.
