Team Leader Geography

Required for September 2018

Full time – Enhanced salary scale plus TLR 2b

Are you a successful Geography teacher who ‘loves to teach’ and explore teaching and learning pedagogy?

Do you want to have the opportunity to develop the very best in other teachers and in doing so have a greater impact on maximising the success of young people?

Are you looking for a next step or new challenge in your career that focuses on both the art of teaching and on leadership?

Then read on to explore this opportunity!

We are looking to employ a Geography specialist who is a strong, effective and creative teacher, to join a successful Geography team, as part of a wider Humanities Faculty. The two things you will definitely need are a love of Geography and a love of getting the best from everyone. As a team leader you will be responsible for maintaining the highest of standards and role modelling excellence whilst quality assuring the curriculum delivery, supporting teachers to track and monitor progress, helping them to celebrate great progress and working with them to accelerate the closing of gaps when identified, to help young people achieve their best.

We are a big school of about 1500 students and nearly 200 staff. You would be leading a strong team of Geography staff, ranging from excited NQTs, to teachers with many years of experience. As part of the Humanities team you would be supported by the Head of Faculty, but also given the autonomy to make your own choices regarding curriculum, extra-curricular activities and other exciting initiatives you may have. Geography is a very popular subject within the school, with extremely high uptake at KS4 and increasing numbers at KS5.

We have a robust behaviour and rewards policy that enables ‘trouble free’ teaching, we offer excellent CPD opportunities both internal, within the group and beyond, as well as, enhanced salaries (approx. 5% higher than national) and many other rewards such as childcare discounts in our nursey and half price gym membership to name a few

We are fortunate to enjoy an astounding school building with superb facilities, but that does not define who we are. What defines us is our very real sense of community as a Rights Respecting School; a togetherness that permeates through daily school life, described by our recent inspection team as the ‘heartbeat’ of the school. It is what focuses us all on why we went into teaching – to develop children’s personality’s talents and abilities to the full, to ensure the ‘Best in Everyone’. As a leader at TRS you will play a pivotal role in upholding those rights.

We are looking for:

• QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree

• At least three years’ teaching experience and a proven track record of helping students to make good progress.

• The ability to teach Geography to A-Level

We are happy to receive applications from both experienced leaders and those looking for their first ‘leadership’ post; we will support you and offer you structured training to make it the right start to your leadership career or help you  advance your current leadership skills in a new setting.

There is an open invite for you to come and see us because we appreciate that, in teaching, moving to a new school is a significant decision.  We are convinced our young people will sell this opportunity better than anything you can read on a website, so we encourage you to come and meet us all. Our recruiter, Richard, is happy to arrange this for you. Richard.lanning@hays.com / 01273 729465.

Closing Date:  2 May 2018

Interview Date: w/c 7 May 2018

TRS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.  This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

The Regis School is part of United Learning, a unique group of independent and state schools working together to achieve the best in everyone.

Our vision is to provide an excellent education so that all young people are able to make a success of their lives and, if we are to realise this vision, we need to make sure we attract, develop and reward the key ingredient, our high quality, hardworking staff.

The Regis is a school that we all feel proud of and our teachers are passionate about their work. We know that teaching can be a challenging profession, but with the support we offer and a commitment to seeing the best in each other, we work tirelessly to find creative ways to educate. We have access to a Group-wide curriculum, an intranet platform that enables sharing of resources and opportunities for work shadowing and mentorship.

The Regis School is a secondary 11-18 school with over 1600 students on roll. We are an inclusive comprehensive school that aims to achieve the best for every student.  This philosophy is reflected in the successful Sixth Form of 160+ students who are offered a broad range of academic and vocational programmes.  Over 70% of our students progress to Higher Education each year.

The Regis School has a well-qualified, dedicated supportive and enthusiastic staff team. We have approximately 200 staff, all of whom are committed to providing the best possible education for our students. As one of the biggest employers in Bognor Regis, we emphasise the learning of adults and young people. Staff are involved in further study, research projects and in the training of teachers in partnership with local universities.

The school boasts superb facilities in all subject areas.  Each teaching area has audio-video facilities and a range of ICT suites throughout the school provides access to specialist equipment.  All teachers have a laptop provided, to support teaching and administration.

The Regis School aspires to be an outstanding centre of learning, serving its community and transforming lives. We seek to equip our students for a changing world through building confidence, encouraging creativity and fostering enquiry to achieve excellence. These qualities will allow our students to flourish as leaders of the future and to take their place as caring, ambitious and responsible citizens in their communities.

Academic achievement is at the heart of what we do, ensuring students leave with the highest qualifications that enable them to be competitive in the global economy.  We have a strict behaviour policy that enables teachers to teach in classrooms that are mainly free from disruption. Students who prevent others from learning are given a single warning, then learn elsewhere in the school under the supervision of senior staff.
